My Story

Fearful thoughts and shadows dark,
A young girl with a wounded heart.
Butterflies and rainbows are what she once saw,
Now she sees dark creatures and that is all.

The girl was fine until she turned twelve,
From then on in darkness she dwelled.
Searching for a hand to hold,
But every touch she found felt cold.

She had her "friends" who came and went,
On drugs and alcohol her money was spent.
She was searching for something to take her away,
Those things didn't help, but still she did them everyday.

She still searches for a hand to hold,
She longs for a touch that doesn't feel cold.
She wishes for someone who will always be there,
And she dreams of a dad, who would truly care.

its a very touching pice, but i dont think it really does the ideas justice. have you ever tried writing a free form version of this without as much rhyming? i'd love to see a more open and relaxed version of this poem.
