‘Tis fifteen years since Captain Jane and I
On Bonaventure’s deck first made our stand.
Our flag, a skull and two spare ribs, did fly
Upon our jack-staff; we sailed hand-in-hand.
I mind when she o’erhauled the barque I rode,
A naval surgeon’s daughter, blue with fright.
About our captured poop with glee she strode,
But held me tenderly throughout the night.
But freedom’s short – at last bold Captain Duff
Commanded that the frigate Greyhound rape
The Bonaventure. Though we cried “Enough!”
We all succumbed to canister and grape.
Now Captain Jane and I, two piles of bones,
Embrace upon the couch of Davy Jones!

I guess I need to amend my comment. Allan pointed out that you wrote this last year; sorry, I didn’t notice the date. I have also written several pirate poems; it’s so much fun to do.

Yes they can be a lot of fun. Somewhere on my list there's one about Blackbeard, constructed from a word-bank.

There seem to be lots of people who are fascinated by the idea of a female pirate. The image is entertaining, but doesn't do much for me. I'm revolted by scurvy and like women to bathe regularly. Nice poem, though! Have some very seasick bunnies.

Too much bathing'll weaken you.

This brings a bigger smile to my face than you might have thought. Great minds think alike? Perhaps; I was also in a Pirate mood yesterday. This poem is so much fun even though Captain Jane met her demise in the end. Bravo and three kegs of rum for ye Mattie!
Love,
Amera♥

A pirate's life for me!

Belay that, y'swab! Lay aft and fetch me a stiff rum-and-gunpowder!

Makes me glad
At the very end, as I read, I said "OH!" and I smiled! What a fine poem of adventure and the way they die at the end is so fitting. I love the last two lines the best, as they really cap off the poem.

Indeed it would.

Oh wouldn't it be nice to sail under Captain Janeway! Er... I mean... {blushes}

So sorry to hear of your ill-fated adventure on the high seas, Dear One.
I thought for a brief moment you were gone asail with Captain Jane of the good ship Enterprise. Aye, but that's what I gets for thinkin!

Aha, Lazarus, you barnacle-hulled old stern-chaser! What brings 'ee into these waters, so far from harbour? In the wake of some dubloon-laden galleon, or I'm a wooden-legged Dutchie!
-
By Poseidons beard!!! Wench, I am undone and outdone! The Jolly Roger, out of Jamaica, under command of Cap'n Lazarus, furls her sails in salute of you and your ship!
-
Ahoy there, Black-Bearded Mike! Join me in a stiff rum-and-gunpowder, and we'll drink Cap'n Morgan's health. What say 'ee, old sea-dog?
-
Avast! But nicely done.
-
Thank 'ee, Scribs, me old shipmate!
-
Very nice indeed. I love it. Thanks for sharing.
