I find, when blessings come in rapid flow,
And I can see His gifts lie all around,
There is a light with heaven's holy glow
That leaves me prostrate, weeping on the ground.
You see, this beam reveals my every sin,
The shallow ones that tarnish His good name,
But more than that, exposing deep within
This heinous heart that brings my Saviour shame.
I weep, because I know my wretchedness
Is just another testimony great
Unto the beauty of His holiness
That rescued me from such a sinful state.
The light above lifts up my eyes to gaze
And give the Giver of the gifts the praise.

Author notes
Have you ever felt like God was blessing you so much, and then all of the sudden life got terrible? Have you ever wondered why that happens?
I wonder if our pride in God's blessing us tends to make us loose sight of what's really important.
I had the opportunity to go visit my baby sister up north, and I had a wonderful time... But I didn't want to forget that God was the One allowing that. God could've just as easily allowed it to be a terrible time...
I just think it's important to keep perspective, that we remind ourselves that we aren't getting these blessings because of anything good in us, and that we praise not the "whats", but the "Who".

Praise to the Giver
I am impressed how you round out your poems with your couplets. They are very focused and reveal the truths you are conveying. Your poetry has such a logical flow and truthfulness to it. I confess I've been guilty many times of letting the gifts distract me from their Giver, which I was reminded of when I read this in your notes: "I wonder if our pride in God's blessing us tends to make us lose sight of what's really important." Certainly, this is a snare to be watchful of. mattharris

I'm humbled to be used so... I'm very glad to know it was a blessing to you!

My eyes were brimming with tears by the end of this moving and beautifully written sonnet. You could not have expressed it more perfectly! Beneath His astounding mercy there is nothing to do but be lost in complete joy.
This is simply stunning in humility and grace and I needed to be witness to the pure goodness of it. To find this poem today...well the timing is no matter of chance. I am book marking this one.

Yep, we Christians often forget how good our God is; even while He's being good to us, which is all the time.
Your write reminds me of Paul talking near the end of his life. He had saving knowledge of the Lord for 40 years and yet that made him more aware of his sin. He called himself 'the chief of sinners'.
Impressive write, as always, sis.
God bless ya!

My God is a very good and loving God- I want to remind myself of that. Believe it or not, Christians actually forget that from time to time!
