The Sacred Sound Of OM - Video Slam

When morning dawns so silently
And shades of darkness disappear
When birds are chirping joyfully
The sacred sound of OM I hear

Dwelling
Peacefully
In my
Inner refuge

A tinkling bell, a humming bee
A howling wolf, a belling deer
No difference it makes to me
The sacred sound of OM I hear

Rejoicing
In the beauty
All around
Me

A slamming door, a screaming voice
Perceived in distance far or near
Even in such disturbing noise
The sacred sound of OM I hear

Recognizing
My own Self
In all
That is

  • Hello.

An interesting piece you have here. Omm is one of a few resonant inducing vibrations that according to some opens and closes gates. There are other sounds as well as Omm when it comes to the gates but I can't remember them at this moment in time.

It is also a sound that vibrates through the body when produced properly, likened by some to heal, not unlike a cat's purr, unless a cat is also opening and closing gates, ahhaha. However from the way you have worded it, it appears that it could also sound like a ringing in the ear, amongst other things.

It is a new layout that I haven't come across before, works well. Your rhythm and rhyme, excellent, flowed in your usual ambient way. My regards.

  • Absolutely Beautiful entry.

    dearest bhaiji,

I have the impression that you are actually the first one who REALLY understands what I am refering to when I speak about the sound of OM - the pranava.
some may grasp it intuitively though ... certainly, many have heard of it, or understand it intellectually, or even think that it is a physical sound, belonging to the phenomenal world. some might even think that it is the sound produced by chanting it, as often practiced before meditation or yoga-sessions.

I have been told by a nada-yogi once, that it was impossible for me to perceive this very high-pitched, crystalline and extremely subtle and continuous sound, since it would be only accessible to highly evolved yogis after life-long practice. he also didn't understand how it came that both of my nostrils are constantly open, while it is known that they usually work alternately in a "normal" person. without any yoga-practice, this seemed impossible for him to understand. I proved it to him though ... he said in a humoristic tone : "I don't know, but, to my knowledge and after a long experience about this subject, you must be either dead or enlightened."
it made me smile ... and I replied : "yes, sir, you are right, I am dead."

later, he recommended me to hold on to the holy sound of om and to let it be my guide. indeed, even now that I am writing and listening to the sound of the rain, om resonates within me very strongly and independently to all the other appearing and fading sounds. (by the way, the possibility of a medical disorder called accouphène, a ringing sound in the physical ear, has been excluded here, as this is not the case. my husband, who is a medical doctor has confirmed this to me)

I have tried to write a poem about the sound of silence, in which I made the attempt to describe this mystical sound, although I am not sure that I did a good job in this one, as it came out rather poetic than explanatory. if ever you feel inspired to read it, I would be delighted and honored :

well, this was a long and profound exchange. I thank you so much for your patience and kindness of listening.
    namaste,

    om amriteshwaryai namaha

A pure mind only can hear the 'Brahma Dhwani OM" from different sound of nature and its inhabitants. As Sri Ramakrishna says that the reflection of sun can be seen in a calm lake. Purity brings calmness and this is the key to reach Almighty. Very well done DIDI.

Li'l sis, this is my second comment on this wonderful piece, now that it is in my contest. It indeed tells of the realization of the reality of OM, That which is beyond "good" or "bad".... a celebration of the Oneness, the onliness, of Self, of Being...

    Thanks for entering it.

    Be ever bright, Rod

    dear chrissie,
thank you so much for your truly loving words and your kind support for tara and myself. it really does help.
you have been such a light and wonderful presence during this challenge, which has almost miraculously transformed into the most incredible blessing for all of our family !
it also taught me to trust and rely on community - which is actually not in my nature ... this touches me very much and shall have a profound and lasting impact on my life.
when I told the vet that I had sent her and tara reiki during the surgery, she was so delighted, as she had felt some kind of presence in the room during the operation.
my husband, who had been sitting in the waiting-room, meditating all the time, perceived the presence of eight light-entities or angelic beings behind the vet-lady during surgery.
he is usually not clairvoyant, or let's say he doesn't look out for such powers, so this was nice to see.
our other dog slept all the time during surgery, and we knew she was with tara in spirit, as myself ...
few days before surgery, a grey-wolf appeared to me in dream.
I was scared first, but knew he was a spirit-messenger asking me to integrate his gifts.
I guess I am ready now to do so ...
thank you so much for having passed by here at the page with my favorite poem and for being sensitive to it.
I am also very grateful for you having listened to me.
    much, much love,

    maa
ps. we are vegetarian too, and even the dogs have a vegetarian diet : my dog tara all her life, she will turn her head when someone presents meat to her, and our other dog has become vegetarian a year ago, when we adopted her from my husband's mother, who, herself is not vegetarian. so the dog is sensitive to meat, but accepts her vegatarian diet quite happily, which helped her heal a couple of ailments (even her epileptic spasms appear very rarely now)...

This is a beautiful, stirring mantra. Deeply peaceful, wonderful to read. In fact, I have it running through my head now, and it will probably stay in my memory.... thank you
I was sent to your page by 'The Risen Sun' in support of what you are going through right now with Lady Tara, and I will add my voice to all those already sending love and healing your way.
I am also adding you to my favourites, as I feel we speak from the same beliefs, and it's lovely and refreshing to read such words.
    Blessings...
    and
    Much Love and Laughter,
    Chrissie
    and for Lady Tara

    My Dear Sister,
The OM when done correctly is like the opening into the deep space that brings all into one accord.

Ah, dear maa... You bring us so gently into that Blessed Realm of Self knowlege. What a joy, to sit silently with You and listen... how I love what I see and hear through Your eyes! How well You know that sacred Sound... many can hear it in the beauty of music, in the laughter of loved ones, in the purring of kittens... but rare are those who hear it in the slamming of the door and the garbage truck banging dumpsters early in the morning light!

How wonderful to come accross this gem! LOVE the graphic too! My Blessed Friend OM - manifested in female form... You are a wonder!

    OM Jai Sri Mataji OMmm!
