inside beauty

beauty is one word
but very complicated
to some people, it can mean them
to others, that word
is a death sentence
only the Wise people know
that the real beauty lies within

in chicken soup for the teenage soul
i read about a girl
who was near death
because of the word:
beauty
she was in love
with the cutest boy in school
a boy who sent her to near death

one evening
on a date
he called her fat
and told her that she looked like a whale
one boy should not offend
the love of his life
or was she not the love of his life

instead of looking at it this way,
she took it as advice
to loose weight
so that her boyfriend
would be happy by  her appearance

she tried everything
she tried diet and exercise
and she did not loose one pound
with little thought
she made the decision that almost
cost her her life.
she stuck her finger down her throat
and threw up

she did loose weight
but there was one problem
her body has got used to throwing up
after very meal
that she didn't even
stick her finger down her throat
anymore

she couldn't stop and with tears in her eyes
she told her mom
and the women took her to the emergency room

she went through much therapy
but the thing that helped the most
was standing in front of the mirror
and saying "your beautiful, your beautiful."
countless times a day

the true cure to her sickness was to believe in herself
to realize that she was indeed beautiful
from the inside out

in order to recover
she had to do one thing
build on her self esteem
and now she is better.

her ex-boyfriend then replied
"you look great,"
"want to go out on a date,"
"no," she replied with a scowl.

the word beauty put her in danger-
but it also saved her life
