taunting words
standoffs by the bike racks
each group with their posse
ready for the throwdown
you stay on your side
and i'll stay on mine
but we get the monkeybars...
status quo
fragile peace
cliques sticking to their playground turf
sticks and stones might break bones
but names will never hurt...
first comes the scraped knee
then the black eye
then stones begin to fly
nevermind where they fall
it's all collateral damage
we have to fight back
or the other side wins
the battle cry calls
stop throwing stones
or we'll tell the teacher!
wrong
right
to the ones in the middle
it doesn't matter
so long as the stones stop flying...
Author notes
Day eight of the Lebanon War.
It's getting tedious now, watching the news, hearing the usual talking heads going back and forth and around and around with their usual recriminations about which side needs to do what. Despite being Jewish and obviously pro-Israel.. I'm already at the point that I think there needs to be a stop to the whole mess. It's gone from the issues of last week to everyone agreeing on the cease-fire, but the order of events being what's now in the air...
And in the meantime, Hezbullah kills Israeli civilians indiscriminately with helter-skelter rocket-fire, and the IDF kills Lebanese civilians indiscriminately while hunting the terrorists. *sigh*
Devil in the details and all.
It doesn't matter, as I said, who's wrong and right, as long as the stones stop flying..

I must say the image of thorwing stonesin the playground was really nice. Yes I heard this line before sticks and stones make brake my bone but words will never hurt me. Nice write...

Nice write, very strong message, good imagery, thanks for sharing and keep up the good work

PROFOUND
Profound write. Your analogy of peace is well suited to children on a playground. Your perspective is excellent and I find the flow of thought to lead the reader to your point is perfectly driven. Very good job. Blessings! Tammy

the fighting will never stop for thousands of years it will not stop and with each new bomb that is created it will not stop as we see land is more inportant than the blood that flows through our veins and then there is the oil and diamonds and other stuff is long as there is greed in this would there will be bloodshed nice write

Nice job! When you really think about it, that does resemble the scene of the Isreal/Lebanon crisis. I hope they both get peace, but from my viewpoint, I really can't see them getting peace unless one defeats, or nearly defeats the other. I think(unfortuanetly) that some one has to give in. I wonder who's bubble is gonna burst first...

I like the idea of the piece. Both sides are acting like children (And have been for a very, VERY long time) and it must stop.
But it I think it DOES matter who is right and who is wrong, that's never irrelevent. There is no more justification for the disproportionate damage currently being inflicted on Lebanon by Isreal than there is for the initial incident resulting in the capture of the soldiers. Both Hezbollah and Isreal are terribly wrong and the innocent citizens on both sides must suffer for the arrogance of a few.
If only there was a teacher that could step in and give 'em both a timeout. -
h
well i get what your saying
ur also saying that it wasnt fair for isrealis to kill many many more
but in the first place it wasnt fair for palestenians to have staged that attack..
"an eye for an eye will make the whole world blind"
this is an eye for 20 eyes...
sad stuff... :/
but i still think you should take that out of your authors comment
you are specifieng hizbollah.. instead of the many wars going on right now...
that is pretty biased.. alot of conflict going on right.. in alot of places.. i wouldnt be surprised if you didnt know 1/4 of them..
i still stand with you, but not 100%
i am anti MOST war.. but sometimes war is necessary, sometimes it is the only thing that can create change.. -
This is a good poem. I like that you have clothed the entire present issue at hand (the Lebanese attack issue) and personified it as a playground scene amongst children. It epitomises how the issue at present is nothing less than children skirmishes and all this pettiness needs to stop.
Throwing stones at one another will only increase the pile behind you and the need for defense to increase...I believe no country would need a defense if everyone lived in a world of confident peace... -
It wasn't "right" at any point - considering that the initial attack over the Blue Line killed eight and took two captive. So much for your facts. (And what about the two children - Arab children, I might add - who were killed in Nazareth today by a Hizbollah missle? Are they a military target?)
I'm not getting into a political argument over who is more or less right in this space, so any further responses, no offense, arguing over the greater good-evil of the conflict and whether or not I'm some Zionist zombie are going into the circular file. -
dude at one point those facts were straight.. but israel is still killing wayy more citizens... dude.. israeli citizens r totally brainwashed didu see wat they did to those missiles?? these like 5 year old children( and older) were writing on missiles bound to hit israeli citizens... those missiles ended up killing people of all ages.. including toddlers... really really sad.. but what im saying is lebanon isnt the bad guy here.. they are doing this in self defense...
lebanon is attacking military targets... israel is attacking anything they can...
allpoetry.com/poem/2132089 please read that.. -
"Dude", they've killed more than "one" Israeli. Get your facts straight before you criticise mine. :-p
It's not like anyone who kills civilians has claim to the moral high ground anyway, which was kind of what I was trying to get at. No one's more "right" or "wrong" when that happens, it's just a tragedy. Just squabbling children. -
dude hizbollah killed 1 israeli citizens.. isreal killed 200 lebanese... wat the heck...??? read my most latest write please...

Great job!
Great peom! I loved how you placed us as kids in a classroom who do not behave and start picking fights. The U.N is like the teacher who must look over a bunch of kids who swarm for a fight.
Ahh this is a good one. Humans follow an eye for an eye and so we fight even in the schoolyard. -
smooth
I like it, kaap going with what your doing -
Amen my friend, for the sake of humanity they can at least call a ceasefire whilst they try and negotiate, this isn't a game or a movie,it is real, raw carnage.
