My Father

Brushing off the dust
reading the yellowed page
bringing back the memories
of a much older age

Newspaper articles
awards and photographs
remembering the one lost
who provided me with laughs

A man of honor
my father, my dad
tragically lost at 12
when I needed him so bad

Who will embarass me
when its time for my first date
or walk me down the aisle
where my groom shall wait

Who will be there for me
when its time for a new life
to hold my first born child
when I become more than just a wife

Who will I turn to
when I need a fatherly embrace
or when I just need my daddy
to put a smile back on my face

I'm still a little girl inside
so scared and all alone
without my daddy here with me
it just doesn't feel like home

As I prepare for my graduation
my life turning a new page
I know he won't really be there
when it's my turn to cross that stage

So with a tear in my eye
and my heart yearning for his love
I know he can only watch
from his new home in heaven above.
