Entertainment

The brightness of the television pierces straight
into the memories I thought I left behind years ago,
but they've unfortunately morphed into re-runs
that seem to never lose their spot in syndication.
Sweet tranquility of laugh tracks try to hold off
the forthcoming nightmares at bay
while I sit there preparing for battle.
The longer I stay awake,
the longer I can shun away the true demons
lurking around in shadowed capes with sunken faces
that try to pry themselves into my mind through
these waxless ears and newborn, sandless eyes.
With enough deep thought,
I could always summon the floods,
but I'm afraid even the heaviest tears
wouldn't be able to cancel this must-see program.
I'm going to set the sleep mode
to 30 minutes like always,
whisper tiny chants of helplessness,
and dream of seeing an all-new episode.

Author notes

Bored at work. I wanted to try and write a piece about my family, but ended up turning into something about television. Don't ask, ha.
