The Battle of Heaven's Haven

(PT.1)
Heaven's Haven, what a marvelous place
Home to many mythic creatures
Who wish to escape their grim fates
Dragons, Lycans, Vampires, and others as well
Who wished peace found it here
Under Sephra, the Half-Dragoness
The Lady of the Haven, whose might was sheer
And then there was Darek, a bard of the sort
Who came a year after the Haven's start
He wooed the Lady with words so fair
Soon marriage came and "till death do us part"
All the while the humans gathered below
For they had prepared for a great hunt
Their weapons made of silver and steel
Weapons of fire, blades, arrows, and blunt
When at last the wedding came to a close
The singers had sung and the bell had rung
A voice came load that shuddered them all
The voice came from a crier who cried, "They come!"
"Prepare for battle" The Lady commanded
"And let us pray that this isn't the end"
She turned to Darek and spoke "Send a message"
The message was a warning that was to be sent
But before it could be delivered, something came
First strike, it was, in a volley of arrows
With some precision the arrows did hit
Striking and slaying some Weresparrows.
"First blood is on their hands" Darek did say
That enraged those who inhabited the Haven
Sephra commanded half her forces to follow Darek's lead,
So into battle he led them, that fearless Wereraven

(PT.2)
So begins this battle, great
The Wereraven's forces press the attack
And the Half-Dragoness's guard Heaven's Haven
Darek's forces attack from both ground and sky
With volleys of arrows and magic sent and received
The ground forces slowly advance,
The sky weakens the resistance with quick strikes
The main forces of the enemy awaits their moment
Trumpets sound and drums play, the enemy advances
Their tactics are odd, for a single path is cleared
"Balistas!" Darek cries to Sephra
"Defend the Holding Crystal!" Was her reply
10... 9... 8...
The balistas moved into range
7... 6... 5...
Archers and knights defend them with their lives
4... 3... 2...
Pulled back and aimed in on target
1...
"FIRE!!!" came the order from the enemy commander
The balista bolts flew through the air
Glowing with magic so none could interfere
That moment that they hit hangs in time
For only to watch and nothing more could be done
The crystal, gone... the Haven, fallen...
So it was that the battle did turn
With a boosted moral the enemy did charge
And with the lost hope, Darek's forces crumbled
Yet still the battle raged and still His forces fought
But in the end was only the Wereraven
The few humans watched him flee,
Shooting with arrows though with too few
So was the battle's end and the Haven's as well
Yet vengeance was felt in the Wereraven's heart
For he had saw his love's own death
So on a hunt of humans Darek did go
Finding and killing the survivors that had been left
Till atlas all of them were dead
And Darek decided to return to his clan

Author notes

This battle is the main history of Darek Osiris Ravox, the Wereraven (also a half-dragon, but not mentioned within this poem).

I had never heard of any of this before but your poem was certainly aptivating and quite sad really. I loved the way you put this across in such a beautiful story. speaking for the wereravens, you captured all their emotionsquite briliantly. I loved this piece a lot and wonder why i had not come across it before. Well done indeed and keep up the great work.

    Ah -

You portrayed your battle scene well, with solid descriptions and a steady countdown

    - Fantasy writes are not particularly of interest to me, so this didn't catch my eye in that manner, but I will say how charged with excitement this seemed to be, and -

Most impressive that they are your own creations and from your own memory!

Nicely done, and thanks for entering

Wow, father, did not know this. It is a great story better by far than any your daugther can put together.
You can spin the tales like the Bard you are. I loved it.

i could definitely see this poem as a scene in a movie- the description is vivid and the characters are easy to imagine. the story is detailed which is why it makes such a great battle sequence. the one thing i would suggest is putting some line breaks in because it's slightly hard to follow for so long at a time.

but overall a great story you have told here, and thank you for entering

    Violently, graceful

Wow, that had some very powerful parts in there I really liked it, it had me a little lost there for abotu three or four lines, but you drew it all back together with revenge, the best way to finish any story. Cudos, nicely done. Keep up the good work, and take care. Good luck in the contest!

I would have loved to see the havoc he wreaked on the humans that would be interesting indeed. If I had seen my love slaughtered ALL of those connected with the guilty parties would suffer before they died! This give a great back ground to the character thank you for sharing it with us and welcome to the group.
