Hell's Cell

Missing image
Ebony enshrouds beauty in darkness,
choking its frail life within its hands
Wrists bound by its power and prowess
as it bends her to its demands

Bruises adorn her pallid flesh
She is a sickly, pale hue
Her eyes speak of untold sadness,
dressed in a gown of blue

She has no bite left within her,
no strength or courage rises to fight
The tiny window barred where there were
once things that shone of hope at night

Golden locks flutter gently,
but she pays such things no mind
The pain reaping her rips right through me
because I can see that they were not kind

She is their marionette,
and she seems to have no escape
Each day of her life fills her with fret,
and I can see we're almost too late

because she's allowing herself to die inside
She's keeping everything locked away
Whenever there's that challenge, she has to hide
because those things she just can't say

She's unable to tell them straight
that she wants to take her life back
She doesn't know how to walk away
because they've always known how to attack

The wounds are still so fresh to see,
and yet I am so blind to them
How can I help her to be free
when she's guarded twenty-four-seven?

I've pleaded for the child to come to me,
told her she'd be safe if she held my hand
Yet I'm still unable to give her the lead
because she doesn't seem to understand

that I would never let her go,
or let them take her under ball and chain;
that she can trust me because she knows
that inside, we're both the same

Instead, she pulls and shoves away,
afraid of what they will think
She fails to see that by that day,
she would have changed everything

She remains bound under their control
because she doesn't trust me enough
to realize that they don't own her soul
and she's able to fight when it gets rough

So here is that beautiful woman I see inside that cell
The one who refuses to let me in to help her out of that hell
Instead, she's found a comfortable place to sit and feel sorry for herself
She'll never be all she can be as long as she lets herself belong to someone else

what lady wolf says is true and i don't think i can say it any better at the moment. but i know that you will stand your ground with her, and you will stay ready to accept her. and you are wonderful. be aware for yourself. as she hopefully walks the path that she must walk alone, i am sure you have your own.
your poem is very good work, my dear thorn. and i am always wishing you the best.

Rose this is beautiful but sad. I can understand your frustration, a lot of the time we want to help but the person we want to help won't let us. We can't see why, we can't figure them out sometimes and it's hard to sit and watch someone you care about hurting and knowing that until they come to you, there's not much you can do. Everyone has their own path though and sometimes with certain things we can't always help, they have to help themselves first. They have particular lessons to learn that don't involve us. This piece flowed very well and had a lot of emotion and imagery to it. Well done sis, I love you and I'm here if you need to talk.
