(Ode to Mr. Einstein)
By the time I was born, he had passed away
A myth of a man, so my father would say
One picture of him, bright eyes and hair of grey
He had so much to say perhaps, wisest of his day
His faith in God I think overshadowed by his way
The simplicities of his mind, still contemplated today
The genius unique
Simply looking afar
He put the magic of space
Into his
Hat full of stars
By the time I had grown he had fame in praise
So misunderstood, I would have to say
Like caricatures hanging, adorning Princeton’s hallways
“Imagination is more important than knowledge”
The myth of this man; an injustice to all of us
How many more like him I wonder will follow us?
The man imaginative
Sharing everything we are
He pulled the magic of his mind
From a
Hat full of stars

A very well flowed tribute to one of the true greats of 20th century science. And as others have noted a "hat full of stars" is a wonderful piece of imagery.
Thanks for a good entry here

I agree with Cinnary somewhat here... "a hat full of stars" creates some awesome imagery. Four words that could launch a thousands more ships. A fitting tribute to the infamous "pixie"

excellent
I could say a ton of great things about this piece Michael, but, for some reason, I can't get past those 4 little words, "hat full of stars," it just sent me off to a different place. A good place. I love poetry with small pieces that just shout out loud and send me into daydreams. Great write by the way. Thanks. -
This is a beautiful piece Michael, loved it for the great rhythm and flow. He was so much more that the sum of his achievements, I often wonder what it was like for him to be such an innovative mind in those times, a hat full of stars was surely what he had in comparison to others of the day. great work, Michael, good luck at judging!

This is another one of those titles that I didn't know how people would make work, but Michael, I think you did a wonderful job not only writing an amazing work, but finding and interesting and abstract way to use what you were given. This was a wonderful tribute to an amazing man. Thank you so much for entering.

thank you for your kind encouragements concerning my einstein piece. Sorry it took so lomg to respond I have been caught up in my hectics. i do appreciate yours and anyones times spent posting and yes I imagine the conversations between poeple who have enjoyed reading about him could last a long time and be very beneficial. He should have a college course accredited to him-Einstein 101. (JUst the basics please)! It would be packed. the learning of his basic knowledges that I think will be his greatest legacy. Not the details of the math but the simple generalities and his ways of looking at all of nature as an order of divine design while most others then and now take to task the laws of nature and ascribe them to being notable points achieved accidently over billions of years. As if chaos could ever become order. even if given eternity chaos would be chaotic. Why? well because thats the way it was designed of course. gotta go thanks again IrishYndina.

Ah, Einstein...my college has a Nobel conference ever year with a different topic, and this past year was entirely about Einstein (his whole anniversary thing, you know). It was so incredibly interesting - Einstein was an amazing man. Did you know that some dude kept Einstein's brain in a jar after he died and took it on a road trip to see someone who might possibly have been Einstein's illigitimate daughter? The crazy things you can learn
Anyways, I really really enjoyed this piece. Of the ones I've read in this contest, yours is my favorite to win. Good luck and thanks for listening to my ramblings about a great physicist

Fine
Einstein was the greatest of the late developers. A truly unique thinker who was so much more than E= m C squared.
You have captured this well in your poem as his work is helping to capture that hat full of stars.
Your lines on him being misunderstood and most peoples knowledge being only a caricature of this complex man.
Very well done.
Good Luck in the competition.

Awesome
This was truly wonderful. Einstein would be proud that you portrayed him in such and elegant way. I loved this. Well written and great imagery. Well penned my fellow poet. Good luck in the contest. Dawn -
I'm a huge fan of Einstein and my son did a paper on him this past school year.I also wish he were alive and accessible to us all.He was brilliant and has given the next generation a gift for excellence.
