Here I lay, eyes are closed
Bare my heart, soul exposed
I ask you, please watch over me
Protect my friends and family
Grant me strength so I won't fail
And peace of mind, so I prevail
Hear me Lord, I pray to keep
Your love and hope as I sleep
Author notes
Said along the lines of the old blessing, Now I Lay Me, but this is one I taught to my son (who is 9) and we say it together every night when he lays down for bed.

Thank you. It was what I taught to my son when he first learned to talk, and he's been saying it ever since. He just turned 9. Appreciate your comments.

That was really cute. I think that it would be very cute to hear a little kid say this. It was beautifully written. THanks for the entry!

Merry Meet,
Always wonderful to find another that dwells in the same paths in which you live by. I have been on the pagan path for more than 22 years. But I am, and always will be, a student.
Thank you for reading this, and commenting. Appreciate it.

A very heartfelt prayer. As I continue to explore spirituality, I too find myself drawn to pagan path as well. Good luck with the contest. Blessed be.

Thanks Anne. Though I do believe in God,I am and always will be pagan, with different views of the Gods/essess and deities. But my son is a little different, at least now. And so when prayer came to his quest, this is what we came up with. And yes, he helped create it. Not much, but his too.
Thanks for the comment.

This is so beautiful Storm.
You know I am not a believer but this is gripping because of the pure and true love in the words.

Yeah, I was taught the Now I lay Me prayer, but for some reason, although I am not afraid of death, it just struck me weird as saying if I should die in a prayer. So I changed the wording when I had my son. We have been saying it for years together. I am also glad I got to enter it into a contest, and hope maybe someone else gets to learn it.
Thanks for the comment, and the contest

Ah, so you say this one every night with your son! That is awesome and adds even more beauty to the poem knowing that. Very awesome and I'm glad you got to enter it into a contest. This is something that everyone could teach their children at some point. God bless you. Thanks for entering the contest
