We are Life leaning on a listless lump of earth.
We arrived, either dropped, or set sail,
simply appeared in the atmosphere,
rose from the ground, one curl at a time,
but we are here. We are crawling
on our bellies, pulling water with our fins,
lumbering on all fours, stretching upright
to see above the horizon, or spreading feathers
to watch the new sun rise. Here we are.
We have fallen through holes and cracks
in some suddenly opened sky. We have been
adrift for eons, waiting for some shore to appear.
We are a particle of dust that decided to double,
triple, take destiny by the stem of it and become.
We are side-winding and leaving our crooked trail
as warning, as reminder that no path is straight.
We are the silver flash of inspiration
flickering up a fateful falls, resting in the pools
where we can gather gratitude for the hardships
and lean against each other’s scaly skins
to turn towards the tempest again and again.
We are the keen night hunters and day dreamers
leaving four-pawed footprints in clay to be found
and known once we have evolved to this eternity.
We rose to seek our meat and mentors, two-handed
manipulators of most malicious kinds, forgetting
the feel of bare feet on the earth. We are keen-eyed
and critical of the goings on and going under and above
this lava-cored ball that fans the furnace and brings belief
that cool air can circulate in this heat of hell. Here we are.
Here we are above, below, beside and mixing our music
in the milieu. With curve and claw, barb and whisker,
prey and prayed over, we are here. We are blind
and sighted blinks of buried belief that it is as it is meant to be.
With a flurry of feathered belief, we are here and here we are.
Author notes
No matter how it is, we are here, and here we make our fateful prints upon the Universe.

Your sister is a wise woman, my Friend...I am not nearly diligent enough in coming to your pages, my Sister...For some reason, your new writes don't show on my log in page...probably too many favorites on my list or something. Life gets far too busy far too often. I shall have to remedy that...Love you, Lady.

Wanda, you are so diligent in watching my writing. I so appreciate you taking the time. My sister always said, "here I am and I am here!" whenever somethng auspicious or ugly ahppened in her life. I was thinking of this when I wrote this.

Sighhh...Once again, I must tell you how impressed I am by your writing...I believe this should be required reading in every science classroom, my Sister...especially those that rage with the debates between creationism & evolution...A reporter once asked Einstein, "As a scientist, how can you believe in God?" He replied, "As a scientist, how can I not?" Your command of the language is admirable...your choices of metaphors are impeccably elegant & eloquent, as well...This composition has a quietly enlightened sense of solitude about it...This penning makes us pause & ponder our own reasons for existence, which is the essence of a sentient being, let alone for that of a creative Spirit...there are many layers that require us to unveil our own thoughts in perspective...good imagery & verbiage...your flow is smooth & resplendent with the sense of a calming stream of thought...a wonderful effort on your part, giving the reader sudden & profound insight into their own Heart, as well...A very good piece, worthy of contemplation & filled with the realizations of Grace...This is a beautiful penning, with an amazing use of language that holds great depths...Your efforts reach out to the reader with a sense of urgency, recovery from devastation, honesty, compassion & trust...This is an impressive literary experience, indeed...Congratulations on winning the gold, Carol...Be well, Poet...
