His Offered Hand (Sonnet)

I will not rise with offered hands of men-
They will not take me where I want to go,
Nor can they lead to heights I wish to know;
They only try with foolish hearts to win
The passions of my heart- they never will,
For Jesus won these passions long ago.
Yes, even when my world rocks to and fro,
He holds my heart and whispers, "Peace, be still."
From there, He lifts me past men's lofty praise,
And offers possibilities so grand,
Each resting deep within His nail-pierced hand,
My breath is lost in wonders that amaze
And steal my heart- He's taken it away,
And promises ahead a better day.

Author notes

Gary Rottier is the young man that works with Mr. Williams.  I guess you could say he's a little bit of a charmer, but I think much of it is just good upbringing on how to treat ladies. I find that an attractive quality in a guy.

Just previous to writing this on the very same day, I had been in a conversation with Gary and my friend Autumn.  They were both sitting in chairs, and I had parked myself like a little indian on the floor.  Well, when it was time to go eat, he offered his hand to help me up.

Now, I've already admitted that I find such things to be good qualities in a guy... But rather than dwell on that, I wanted to turn this minute situation into a spiritual advantage.

You see, no matter what happens in my future relations with ANY guys, I know Jesus tops them all, and I wanted Him to know that I appreciate that.

    Great and Truthful! :f

A relationship with Jesus, such as yours, should define all relationships. This is part of the Hub He was meant to be for us. All else must revolve around Him. When that doesn't happen, all relationships are then defined by problems. We will then seek to make the people we know our slave, or our god.

In humility, we should love the fact that we are second-fiddle to the King of kings.

As always, a great and truthful write, magnifying Him.

You were right, I love this message and your lovely wording and skillfully done meter give it that much more impact.
I no longer contemplate romance, but if I did it would be only in the context of finding someone with whom I could share my spiritual beliefs with. If Christ is not the center, then there is nothing to build upon.
You've written it well. I do love your sonnets!
