Company With The Enemy **

Wearing boys clothes to help me with my disguise,
Knowing if I am caught I will meet my demise.

Crossing enemy lines in the dead calm of night,
Helping my boys in grey while swallowing my fright.

Secret dispatches that absolutely must make it through,
So the men in grey can live to fight the men in blue.

A woman alone, holding destiny in my small hands,
Risking my life, I am more than willing to take a stand.

With a fake smile and a low cut dress, entertaining the men,
Learning information, it's the only way I know how to defend.

I will keep company with the enemy if I must,
Luring them in with their open eyed lust.

Living day by day, my smile not reaching my eyes,
Gaining their open trust, while they believe my lies.

People did what they needed to do or died trying... The other alternative was even less glamourous... deserting the cause or turning traitor... Well done!

    Very True

Of many a woman spy in the American Civil War, like Belle Boyd and others. Wonderful rhyme, keeping with the theme throughout! I'm glad you chose to write on women during the Civil War! Good luck in the contest!
