Fireworks go off in the night
Little explosions of pride
They take us back
To a time when many men died
They were called away from home
Handed a rifle, and then left alone
To fight for something bigger than themselves
Something that'll last thru time itself
Freedom, Glory, room to breathe
The right to stand up and say what I believe
Oppresion, Anarchy all gone away
So that I may live the life I have today
Those glittery lights
Are more than entertainment for me and you
They are for something bigger
Pride in the Red, White, and Blue
So don't tell me you don't care
My ancestors died for you
If you don't give a damn
I guess you never had a clue
You had nothing before...
Freedom, Glory, room to breahte
The right to stand up and say what you believe
Oppression, Anarchy all gone away
So that you may live the life you have today
Those men fought for
Freedom, Glory, room to breahte
The right to stand up and say what they believe
Oppression, Anarchy all gone away
So that we may live the lives we have today
Little explosions of pride
They take us back
To a time when many men died

Author notes
I got the inspiration to write this poem after I read a message on MySpace that was sent saying "Happy blow-shit-up day!" I wanted to put the meaning behind the fireworks back into this holiday.

Hey, I like to blow stuff up to
but I know the meaning behind flashing lights and pretty colors. I'm glad some one reminded the rest of them as well... Now i'm off to go play with fire... *big eyes*

Great poem and so true. Today we should be so thankful for all those who gave of themselves that we could have the freedoms we have today. We should also as civilians fight to keep those freedoms that are being taken from us more and more as time goes by or else the lives of those that are lost in vain. God Bless America today, stand beside her and guide her should be a constant prayer on our lips and in our hearts. Thanks for sharing and God bless you and your today and always. childlike faith

Wow Great job! I thought this was a verry good reminder of what fireworks are for. they're not for the loud explotions and the colorful lights they are a message a reminder to remind us that men (and women even though they weren't supose to.) fought in the war for freedom and i think many people forget that and you did an exelent job of reminding people through this poem. Great Job. and Happy fourth!
