Night Thoughts
Deep in the night when the world sleeps,
in a cavern of darkness deep and velvet,
my thoughts expand to wonder what light
I will leave upon this space I occupy.
In the vast, bewildering cosmos, my soul
is but a speck of dust, not weight enough
to tip the scale, floating and inconsequential.
Yet the breath of life lives within my breast,
is that not enough to mark the chalkboard?
Have I marked infinity with who I am?
Are my few fleet days bound by the hand
of whatever force slides me along the way?
Thoughts are for these hours that crush the soul
with wondering and quiet contemplation.
You cannot change the world, pundits say,
but I believe every little life in its complexity
shapes the world just a little bit to its mold.
We cannot walk without footprints, though,
like sand, they will leave from their imprint
and become the dust of creation.

Beautiful
Reenie, you know, sweetheart, this is one gorgeous, impressive write. I love this. I think in life we all wonder from time to time whether or not we've made a difference, and even though I do not know you all that long, I do know that you cannot do but make a difference, with your heart and wonderful spirit, sweetheart, you can brighten the darkest day.
love,
