Botticelli's Dream

Adoration of the gifted Magi
In colours of red, gold and blue
Tremendous beauty that captivates you

See the Birth of Venus, seductress
Life seen within her alluring eyes
Silencing mortal mans sad and lonely cries

In La Primavera, Allegory of Spring
Such splendor in the garden evening
Light filters through trees, so intriguing

Then shone Madonna of the Magnificat
Serenity and grace so wondrously personified
Gentle Lord upon her lap, long before we crucified

In the Cestello Annunciation
Angel spreads her glorious wings
Triumphantly of Heaven, she so softly sings

The beauty of the Madonna of the Pomegranate
Surrounded by six angelic smiles of gorgeous gold
What exquisite images, to silently behold

Searching the luminous heavens
Combing the pastel skies
He saw all this beauty, within his laboured eyes

With brush he gently stroked
On faded canvas and blank ceiling
With each stroke, it exhilarated his being

Raising his eyes to heaven
At the visions he had seen
He closed his eyes and thanked the Lord
For the images became Botticelli's Dream

Author notes

My favorite artist Botticelli, a piece inspired by his many works.

This is an intersting poem, especially since I am no expert on Bottecelli. I know I have seen some of them, however, and your poem points to the magnitude of his work. I always think of Bottecelli women when someone refers to his paintings. I am not familiar with the rhyme scheme used here, either, but I found this educational and enjoyabale. ~ klassy

I think "The beauty of the Madonna of the Pomegranate" would sound better as "And then the beauty of the Madonna of the Pomegranite" to make the transition more clear and round off the speaking of the works. Since the piece doesn't consistantly speak of his paintings, a clearer transition is needed in order to make it flow better, or else the stanzas at that point seem awkward. But other than that: wow! great poem. It can be difficult for people to describe one art form with another, and yet you pulled it off wonderfully! the wording and rhyme was fantastic!

This is great- the imagery is so stunning. I'm not a fan of this rhyme scheme; but you've formed it well- your rhythm is all spot on, and the words that you have paired are ambitious and creative.
    Nice work

This is great poetry! Your writing style and the form you've chosen lend themselves so very well to this piece. Your poem delivers a great story with excellent imagery. In all, the flow is nice and easily readable, the content and subject matter are handled flawlessly, the continuity does not break or faulter, and your gifted muse brings all these together wonderfully.

Very well penned poem, wonderful images and mood you have set within this piece. I was curious as to whether anyone would actually attempt that title. I was planning on writing something with it but always struck a blank, the title has been on the shelf for over 4 yrs. Very creative with this being a difficult subject.
