Where Once Stood a Peacock

Where once stood a peacock
now stands a crow

I asked her what she was doing
looking at Heaven
she said
funny
she was looking at the groud
smiling like a fool
at a grave stone
with a name on it
I'd dreamt before

Oh poetry,
she said to me
you'll never understand
he started the fire
they burnt him with
I'll never be the same again

They didn't realize
the mess they made
when they mixed
his beautiful body
with a soul
that was perfectly aged
and sometimes I dream
that I'm with him in sin

I interrupted
pretty lady
you slept with sorrow
now you'll never sleep with a friend

Where once stood a peacock
now stands a crow
dark and beautiful
sadly alone
