It's my day - this day
every 365th day
I came from dark
wet, warm, secure
Into light
loud, cold, unsure
The wise ones raised me
Made sure to praise me
My first feeble steps
My first confused word
My hand grasping
onto bigger hands
My life wondering
how it fits a bigger plan
It's my day - this day
every 365th day
Every year so much older
Lying, saying so much wiser
I didn't know then
I don't know now
Knowledge to be gained - when?
What's in a number?
These lines on my face?
These grey hairs -
suffered at an early age?
These are not who I am
Speak nothing of what I've done
There are volumes left unread
It's my day - this day
every 365th day
No cake, no cards
Can't we skip it all?
It's depressing to see
It's frustrating to think
Thank you kindly
I smile, I fake
I cry, I break
Move on to tomorrow
Give me some reprieve
So I can dread another one
I can never be happy
Really, not on this day
This day - my day
A day I hate.

Thank you so much Princess Muse for taking the time to read my birthday poem. It is nice to know there are those who feel the same way. By the way, I checked out your page and I LOVED that you had Anna Nalick songs on there. She is an amazing artist both vocally and lyrically (and puts on an awesome show). I'll have to make sure to check out some of your work. Thank you again.

This is an interesting write...I like the way you say 'It's my day - this day every 365th day'...I have never really thought of birthday's like that before...I don't particularly care for them myself...never have that I can recall...just another reminder of what you have or haven't accomplished in the last 364 days...I hope your birthday was enjoyable...And just remember...You are in the majority for wanting the day to pass by quickly so as to have a reprieve.
