Lordy, Lordy, I'm in pain
Gram's cooking drives me insane
See me through this meal I pray
Choke down food that may not stay
They all wonder why I cry
I'm not ready yet to die
Author notes
This is actually a prayer I have mumbled at family gatherings when my grandmother would cook. No matter what she made, I would have rather chewed on a piece of pressboard, it was surely softer and had more flavor.

This is very funny! Grandma's food must have been something else for you to want to chew on that pressboard!! Don't you just hate having to explain to a bad cook, why you're just not hungry!
Good work poet!

Umm, yeah, guilty of mumbling prayers that rhyme. Ok, I was a camp counselor for years, so it's a habit.
Thanks for commenting

Would you really mumble a prayer that rhymes?
I've never ever done that... but still, I'm glad you were able to share it with us in this contest. I think this would make my gramma laugh if she were to read it or hear it. Thanks for entering again

Yeah, when my grandmother (bless her soul) cooked, we ALL tended to say a little prayer that was more or less not the standard. But they were mumbled and she never knew, lol.

This one really made me laugh... Have you really said something like that before a meal in the past?
Good luck in the contest with this poem!

Excellent
Now that's the kind of cooking nobody looks forward to. Full of great laughs.
