The Teacher

All of the manifestation
and brilliance of all the stars
sinking light into darkness;
as man is an undulation
no more than waves
on a moonlight sea

Some dark days come and go
as swords and teeth whet
a hunger for power grows blood red fruit
Triumphant horns sound victory!

A distant traveler starves all senses
so that light can grow in the heart
Lone in body but deep in humanity
it takes prostration before all needs
to conquer suffering
cleansing the belongings
of the mind

Black smoke on the horizon
a castle has been conquered
a kingdom has grown
a greater crown bestowed
King of kings now makes law
creates crime and punishment
a righteous path
and temporary peace

The distant traveler
fully fasted
rested of self
sits beneath green leaves of meditation
A great antithesis of all war and desire
glowing from within
compassion
love with out attachment
the ends of the universe wrapped
into lasting peace of the heart

A teacher is born!

Author notes

I have recently viewed documentaries about Ghengis Khan and Buddhism. I think that is where this poem came from.

Just great, stoneage, a wonderful poetic encapsulation of the life of the Buddha. Best of luck in the contest, and peace be with you.
