I am shocked at what this world has become.
It scares me to think,
my kids will go to school one day
and learn how to mistreat.
The outcast, the different
are treated with disrespect.
It’s no wonder they turn to
violence and loss direction.
Twelve students and one teacher
lost their lives in school today.
A place where kids can go and learn
and think that they’ll be safe.
Their family, friends, and the world around
will grieve and wonder WHY,
this could happen to their young and gifted
and why they had to die.
I think to myself how can this happen.
The parents of those boys
did they not pay attention
to their violent and scary new toys?
Were these boys mistreated by peers
or not paid attention to by adults?
Something’s wrong with this world
when kids feel the need
to take the lives of others
in their hands and kill.
My heart goes out to those left behind,
but for all of us and all of you
life will go on and wounds will heal.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL AT COLUMBINE!

Author notes
Because the anniversary is coming soon I thought I would share this with you. Wrote this during the services!
2/23/06 I have written a few poems for the shootings that took place. I watched the whole thing unfold. I felt the pain of each shot fired and cried during each and every funeral they showed on tv. I felt a part of it all.
