Left Behind

Swept away from all I know
A world unknown before my door
Escape from poverty, disease and more…
And yet, my sore heart bleeds
It’s my Ma it needs!
Why did you send me away?
Was I so bad, so horrid; A plague?
Holding back the sobs
I lift glittering eyes to the fore
Determined to survive,
Though my heart was left behind

Author notes

This poem was in response to the character of Frances Mary in the novel, "A family Apart".  It's a wonderful story with great depth of characterization. A wonderful read and inspirational.

As a High School teacher I get to read a lot of young adult books that have a wonderful way of inspiring me to write and respond. It's what I teach my students and hopefully it becomes part of their lives, just as sadness and happiness will always be a part of life. It's easier when shared. Thank you for your kind remarks

i do not know the book. a good piece here, life and love, sometimes it curls us on its tongue of sorrow. spill poetic ink and twist me, turn me into the wild lemony crazy shape of unfathomable love...
