Elizabeth

Missing image
Her nickname is Lizzie Dripping

Under the bushes hidden deep in the ground,
A soft plea for help and such a pitiful sound.
Investigating I discovered your dark sad place,
The first thing I noticed was your beautiful face.

At first you were frightened and so very frail,
The next thing I noticed was blood on your tail.
Infected, eaten away almost down to the bone,
How long had you been there in pain all alone.

I coaxed you, stroking at your dull lifeless fur,
You returned the affection with a faint little purr.
I took you indoors gave you some food and a bed,
You became more lively once you'd been fed.

The pain in your tail made you cry through night,
I assured you we'd get it sorted, come morning light.
The vet was concerned with the sad festering mess,
He suggested amputation, there could be nothing less.

So you lost your poor tail,it was the best I could do,
If not you'd have died.the infection had set through.
It took a few weeks, but with some warm loving care,
You became mischievous, but with an elegant flair.

Strutting around like the cat who got the cream,
Quite aware that your nightmare had turned to a dream.
For you now live in comfort with more than enough,
Elizabeth darling,we all love you so very much.

Author notes

I found this poor cat almost starved and with a very badly injured tail which she had to have amputated, she was living in a hole at the very top of my garden---but she is now part of our family and enjoying her life to the full.

I think I am going to cry. I love animals and am particulary partical to cats. I have found many stray and raised them. I don't have a cat right now which is the frist time in my life I have really not had one around. I aspire to be a vet and your poem is sooo sweet. I am glad you saved that little kitten and that she is doing well. This poem is diffently a jewel. best of luck to you!

This piece is truly beautiful! I think that you have been blessed to find Elizabeth. She is a darling cat, from the picture, and I bet that she has filled your heart with love. Your poem has a fantastic rhyming scheme and I can actually relate. One of my cats ran away (and we now think that she was eaten by a coyote...since they were on the prowl and howling that night), and we put ads in the papers and lost/reward signs all over twon. Well, half a year later, we got a response. A 9 month old (according to the vet) cat was found, emaciated and frail. It was mistaken as a stick in the road. It would not eat until the lady that rescued it put butter on his paws...but her husband wouldn't let her keep him. We thought it was our cat, but I noticed it was a boy. We put ads in the paper, this time, for a found cat, but he appeared to be another runt of the litter or a dumped cat. He is now our little Lucky. He was fattened up and is a house cat (because he is small, but he beats up our barn/basement cats that are twice his size). He is now a hyperactive four year old (well, I think it is four now...I think he is turning 5 in November) Well, I am glad that you have been blessed with Elizabeth. Good luck in the contest and keep up the great work!

    beautiful...

Awwww. So cute!! I found Dusty kind of like that.. but he was in a cage on our driveway and nothing had to be amputated.. If you look at the second picture under Dusty's name.. you can faintly see his wound on the side.. He was so cute with that satellite dish around his neck..
I am sorry that Lizzy Dripping had to go through this and glad that she found someone like you to take care of her and give her love..
Overall, nice rhyming.. not forced.. sad but awesome imagery..
    Good luck,

    -Jenna!

    Heart-warming Poem!

This poem moved me to tears. I can see all of this happening and I smile though that even though she lost her tail your cat is doing well thanks to you. I always admired cats growing upo with as many as 7 in my house when I ws younger and all the strays too. This poem is very moving and super heart warming also! I give you brownie points for including a picture of the kitty cat who is a very beautiful cat. I am happy to know your cat is doing well and sadden the cat lost her tail but then again the love and affection you showed is bled deeply into this poem and I loved that. very nice beautiful poem and Good Luck!

Aww this is a really sweet little ode to your pet kitty cat! I too am not a cat person but I know what its like to have a precious pet (my doggie Marcy.) She is so loyal and loving and if anyone tried to hurt my family she'd try her best to rip them to peices, ven though she's only a beagle heehee. Nice job!

    HEARTWARMING POETRY!

ELIZABETH DARLING, WE ALL LOVE YOU SO MUCH!

What a delightful read and a cute cat to boot! How could anyone fail to fall in love with a lovely cat such as that! She's HAPPY despite the loss of her tail whish lets face it only gets in the way sometimes! When we were kids my younger brother and i found a kitten that had been bitten in the hind leg in a field in the country! We brought this cute and cuddly creature home and as no one knew who it belonged to we claimed it as our own and brought it to The Vet where his leg was saved! This yellow tiger TOM CAT and NEIGHBORHOOD ROMEO that chased many a dog out of our back yard lived to be nearly 20 years old! Went to the batrooom in the toilet and would follow me to and home from school since i walked and didn't take the bus. How I cried the day HE died. Years later when I was married we had a Callico Cat named Princese who we kept in the house who greeted us at the door when we came home and was happy to sit in my lap and sleep at my feet at the foot of the bed! I STILL miss her BUT ahe had a good life since she died at the ripe old age of 19 human years, too.
So, as you can see this fine poem has touched me and brougth a tear to me eye with those memories!
GOOD LUCK in the contest and thanks SO MUCH for featuring this wonderful and heartwarming piece!
Peace & Love - to you and ELIZABETH!
    Earl.

Thank you so much, and yes Lizzie is fine, having no tail doesn't seem to cause her any problems as she's very happy now.
    Thank you for reading this.
