The funny songs you sang to me
when I was just a kid
of silly roosters laying eggs
and when the pigs had hid,
have visited my mind once more
and caused my heart to feel
the joy of our emotions shared
so merrily and real.
I see your eyes all-bulging out
as only yours could do
when singing higher then allowed,
a second octave too!
Your hands would start their own fast walk
though calloused as they were
would tickle with the softest touch,
which laughter would reward.
If truth were told I’m feeling old
and missing you a bunch,
I realized how long it’s been
just sometime after lunch.
I saw a dad with little girl
a bouncing ‘Pon his knee,
and heard her peels of laughter from
the funny songs you sang to me.

My daddy sang to me about the little rooster all the time...
Had a little rooster by the barnyard gate,
That little rooster was my playmate,
That little rooster went cock-a-doodle-doo,
Dee-doodle-dee, doodle-dee, doodle-dee-doo.
Had a little cat by the barnyard gate,
That little cat was my playmate,
That little cat went meow, meow, meow
That little rooster went cock-a-doodle-doo,
Dee-doodle-dee, doodle-dee, doodle-dee-doo.
Had a little dog by the barnyard gate,
That little dog was my playmate,
That little dog went arf, arf, arf,
That little cat went meow, meow, meow
That little rooster went cock-a-doodle-doo,
Dee-doodle-dee, doodle-dee, doodle-dee-doo.
Had a little duck by the barnyard gate,
That little duck was my playmate,
That little duck went quack, quack, quack,
That little dog went arf, arf, arf,
That little cat went meow, meow, meow
That little rooster went cock-a-doodle-doo,
Dee-doodle-dee, doodle-dee, doodle-dee-doo.
Had a little pig by the barnyard gate,
That little pig was my playmate,
That little pig went oink, oink, oink,
That little duck went quack, quack, quack,
That little dog went arf, arf, arf,
That little cat went meow, meow, meow
That little rooster went cock-a-doodle-doo,
Dee-doodle-dee, doodle-dee, doodle-dee-doo.
Had a little sheep by the barnyard gate,
That little sheep was my playmate,
That little sheep went baa, baa, baa,
That little pig went oink, oink, oink,
That little duck went quack, quack, quack,
That little dog went arf, arf, arf,
That little cat went meow, meow, meow
That little rooster went cock-a-doodle-doo,
Dee-doodle-dee, doodle-dee, doodle-dee-doo.
Had a little cow by the barnyard gate,
That little cow was my playmate,
That little cow went moo, moo, moo,
That little sheep went baa, baa, baa,
That little pig went oink, oink, oink,
That little duck went quack, quack, quack,
That little dog went arf, arf, arf,
That little cat went meow, meow, meow
That little rooster went cock-a-doodle-doo,
Dee-doodle-dee, doodle-dee, doodle-dee-doo.

Your poem brings back memories of two very special people (to me), my dad and my grandfather (mom's side). Both were simple men, both had tremendous compassion and humor. Many lines in your poem could be about them... maybe they are. Maybe these kinds of people touch us all. I like that thought. Thank you.

Hiya Legend, Thank you so much for your continued support of my scribbles, I truly appreciate you my friend
I wish I could blast them out daily, heck I'd be happy with weekly at this point but that fishing hole still hasn't dried up and life is just too hectic, but I can still hope!
Have a fantastic weekend! Blessings

Some things are magical moments that we will never forget. I love the sweetness in this... the trip back on memory lane. Through your words and the stories you have told en tell every once in a while... I learn to know the man that i have never and will never met. The eternal love from a daughter to her dad.. the most precious one.
I am glad you write again and your muse takes you on his flight. You brought a big smile on my face so late this night. A big kiss from me little angel. Good luck in the contest Your Prince
