Harsh Words

Their voices follow me
Following as I try to walk away
Harsh words enter my ears
In an attepmt to drown them out
Up come the head phones

Out pour words and the emotions
Escaping into others' emotions
The harsh words sneak in
Volume goes up to maximum power
A futile attempt, it's not working
I still hear the painful words

Searing themselves into my brain
My eyes close in an effort
Trying to stop seeing those words
Lyrics don't wash away those words

For the first time failing me
If the music no longer works
What's gonna keep the words out
Nothing else will keep those words out
They'll drive me over the edge

Music not stopping them, I'll hear them
Harsh words will poison my soul
Eventually they'll push me too far
In relief of the harsh words
Will come the darkness of death
