written in the sand
with more depth
than they can be scratched on my flinty heart
breathing
staring to where the grey waves
meet the grey sky
how can so
little
say
so
much
Author notes
As children we've all sratched messages in the sandy beach. A seeming flight of fancy of no consequence and yet things done in the past that seem very banal come back into focus years later.

You are welcome and we go to Sandy Hook a lot because it's the closest shore point.I used to go to Wildwood but now we stay local.Cape May is beautiful with all the victorian homes. Thanks for entering a great piece.

Thank you ,Natari Moon, for your kind comments. I see you are from NJ, so I'll bet you folks do see some grey seas between Cape May and Sandy Hook from time to time.

This was beautifully done.I wish I could think of a better word to describe how it made me feel.Sometimes I read poetry and I am speechless.Minimalistically this poem really shows your talent.I liked the grey waves meet the grey sky.We always think the ocean is vivid blue like the caribbean.Thank you for entering
