dark and light
black and white
good and evil
truly opposites?
with light reflecting dark
and dark absorbing light
colors ranged between
are they not connected?
or perhaps light and dark are sisters
loving one another and hating one another
even in all things but different as...
"night and day"
Truth confessed in darkness
Secrets revealed in light
beautiful or terrible...
or both?
We define evil and good
we define light and dark
who is to say they have a definition at all.
categorized and catalogued, locked in.
Are the two incompatible?
how can the moon shine all alone at night?
how can a curtain bar all sunlight from a room?
or do our eyes lie to us?
Perhaps light and dark are the same
and we only imagine the differences
we create the wrong and right.
is darkness corrupting? light purifying?
or do these ideas exist only in OUR minds.

Well done. This is very thought provoking. Good luck in the contest.

Ah at first glance, I love this because of the picture, also because it is put to simply but elegantly, but it makes you think so much. Great job and best of luck in the contest.

A powerful message hidden within a simple poem, the concept that had philosophers going and religious men yelling at each other for years. ~~Corey~~

I apologise...I just now saw that this already was a winner. I thought it was for a current contest. Well deserved to be among the top three(I did not read any of the other entries)

excellent +
this digging deeper than you expected seems as if it was the right thing to do. For by doing so, I believe you did more than just write a poem, you gave the reader something to think about (without giving them any concrete answers) you just posed questions , and never once even touched upon what your OWN opinion is.
There are times I really enjoy a write like this....for by you presenting it, you force me to open my mind as well, instead of just reading something and ten minutes later having forgotten all about it. Of course this does not work for every write, but it certainly did for this one
Thank you and best wishes in the contest,

great exploration
Your title caught my eye because i have a poem titled "chiaroscuro," which also deals with the concept of dark and light... our styles are very different (as they should be, since we're different people, LOL), but i think our underlying principal is similar: one would not know of the existence of dark if it weren't for the existence of light, and vice versa. You've taken it a step further, though, by suggesting that it is only in our perceptions that either exists.
i think you've done a great job exploring this universal theme of "good and evil," and i really like how you walk the reader through your points, building up to the final conclusion... it reminds me of a well-written essay in that you build up your arguments in a logical procession, and then make the point that ties it all together. it's awesome that you've put that concept into poem form, and you've done so with beautifully turned phrases, and clever wording, too! great write!

I'm giggling here, because your ending question is answered in my opinion, by the conclusion of my own verse, being...Perception plots the way
I loved the symmatry of this, each coin has two sides and one is nothing without the other to make it complete. It is indeed our own mind that decides which is better for that given moment. Excellent thoughts written most eloquently. Congratulations on your win!!
Many blessings

good write... it provokes contrary contemplation... against prejudiced thoughts or concepts...
why there has to be day and night atall? ... it could be just be day or night...
yet, we cannot question the creation of universe in differentiated ways...
congrats on winning the trophy

I do like the way you question what usually is taken for granted.
Dark is usually connected with evil and light with good.
I really like the way your write portrays how one just does not know for sure.
Well done! -
Interestin. I found some of you are caught in the middle of this picture like in the middle of the spiders web, looking for something you can see deep in your inner world of perception. Good point of view. I would like to know answers on your questions too, what's real and what it isn't.

This stirs many thoughts on your concepts here. I really like how you've done this with conviction. I agree this is lovely work indeed. Bravo!

There is a lot of wiosdom to be found in this, and I must say, the insightfulness becomes not monochrome but the sheer divides in many areas, such as colour, race, subconsious thought and ideal to say but four, lovely work!!
