Moments in Iraq

Moments

The moment I feel most at peace
Is when I’m in the shower
The water running over me
Brings back all my power

The moment that I feel fear
Is when I lay my head down
Will it be my last night
Will I wake with nary a sound

The moment I feel most at home
Is when I’m on the phone
Hearing your sweet voice
Knowing I’ll soon be home

My day is full of feelings
Some are good and some are bad
But it’s my loved ones that I miss most
And missing them - that makes me sad

    Touching Poem

This is such a touching, emotional poem Charlie, it shows where your heart is and what matters to you most. It's amazing how water can be a source of peaceful contentment, whether it's the shower or the ocean. Sleep can also be a release from our personal fears, however, as you rightly say, in such a situation as you write of here, it would be understandable to wonder what would the morning bring... more of the same apprehension or nothing literally!
At such times, the soothing sound of a loved one's voice would be wonderfully reassuring and comforting.
Understandably also being separated from those loved ones would make the heart very sad.

Thank you for sharing these special thoughts with us.

    ~Katie~

I really liked this. I think it's so sad and wrong what's going on. Of course this is my opinion and not everyone agrees with me, but when I read poetry like this it makes me realize that we need our men and women to come home. I hate to think of all the children growing up while their parents are at war. Must be terribly frightening! This is great.

Are you speaking this from experience? If so it is truely wonderful that this can come from someone put in that position. I very much support our troops and think this is great.

hoping you and they all come home safe and sound, American. there's so much drawn in the simplicity of this poem that really speaks for itself, and speaks for itself so very well. good writing and again, I hope you return home safe and soon!
