Courage (the London Tube Bombings)

Courage

Courage is rare they say
But that was the other day
Terror lost the battle
Let London lead the way

They didn't, no wouldn't bow down
Though they saw the devil's eyes
They showed heart through sacrifice
As some said their last goodbye

Now they stand as one
And terror should start to fear
Because London didn't bow
And now terror will face their spear

Author notes

to the people off London and all of England for standing up to terror.

I live in Engand, kent, 30 miles from London, my daughter was supposed to go to London that day but luckily her trip had been cancelled.. It does take courage for preople to pick themselves up and say to the worlds terrorists that they wont be pushed around, there were a ;ot of very couragous people in London that day, a community pulled together in a crisis... Well written.... I too would have to disagree with Zorro... This thing is far from forgotten.......Nice write

I wrote the poem the day after the bombing and yes I knew it was a tube (which Americans call a Subway). I posted it because I felt people should be reminded of the courage that England show. I do see the Death of abuse of any people as trajic and I do pray for those innocent people regradless of there Nationality before during and after the bombings.

Wonderfully written. I too live in London, England, and in all honesty...I don't get too bothered about poems like these. I mean, hey, great thing that you admire the courage shown by them. But England is used to shrugging things like this off and getting on with it (which is real courage). They have had to live with the IRA. I disagree with Zorro69 that it is all forgotten now, but I think it is more about acceptance. Bad things happen, mostly to good people, and it is about getting on with life and not stopping. Or going off on an 'oh woe me' rampage. A good poem, thank you for sharing it and keep the ink flowing!

    Inspiring

Excellently written. I live in London and was off work that day but remember the feelings of anguish and dread that many people were feeling. My brother uses one of the tube lines that was bombed but luckily he'd got into work earlier that morning.
A terrible time for many with friends and family living in London not knowing whether they were safe or not.
A very well expressed expression of the courage of people in the city that day and now.

The bombings were not in a subway. They were on an Underground train and on a bus. And it was 11 months ago. And we've all forgotten about it now. Except for those intimately involved. And you can add the innocent victims of police brutality since then to the toll.

Britian had her time of troubles back in the seventies. Mostly from the IRA. But no one remembers THOSE buses, restaurants and such. A good poem. I hope it generates as much anti-American flak as mine did. We Americans need to keep the world awake. Good work.
