Patriotism

Patriotism.
Is it dead?
Does any one care?

America.
Do you love it?

National Anthem.
Lump in my throat.
Tears in my eyes.
I care!

Do you?

I really like your author's notes. Great advice. The poem I do like as well. The only thing in my eyes is that it reads more like a poster than poetry.

    I'm Australian and love it.
I also love your poem -- your words are powerfully succinct.
    Thanks for entering.

You seem to say a lot within the short breath of this piece, yet, it still seems a tad short of really saying anything more than: "I am patriotic, are you?" - I mean, that's all it's saying, to me. It's not really saying anything else. And that's good, in itself, but, I feel for something of this accord, it could say more.

    Just a thought.

thank you for entering my contest!

ive always found patriotism a funny game, i cannae comment on your country as im British not american, but ive always believed Patriotism to be quite counter productive in dealing with world problems.

i do want to say thank you for entering this poem though i really liked the form and structure and minimalist style to it. which is what i asked! you put across a valid point of view coherently and not brimming up with over nostaligic rubbish.

I cannot agree with Doctor Samuel Johnson who wrote that Patriotism is the last refuge of scoundrels. Judging by your poem neither do you.
    Clear feelings, well written.
Thanks for entering this piece in my competition.

Wow this is short and to the point you say a lot in such few words...I love America the way it was in olden days...when towns would pitch in to help someone, laws weren't so strict, things were actually 99 cents, meat and gas didn't cost an arm and a leg, and most of the earth was still LAND not buildings, banks, restraunts, gas stasions, and plants and factories...

I like the bluntness of this. It makes the reader feel interogated and reflect on themselves. Good job.

I care about America. Those that don't can go back where they came from. I am all for people being true to their heritage but I can't stand people complaining about our country when they cam to our country.

Polly, very nice and simple piece. I feel the same as you do, so many seemed to have lost the feeling how precious it is to be American. I am trying to organze a soldier support rally here, but going has been very tough and slow. I became involved in politics because I want to be proud of my country, my God and our soldiers.. good write Image and Visions
