The Rose

On a moonless night I died
Life slipped from my eyes in tears
It was your Face! I saw it in the mirror,
Clouded by my breath,
Shallow, crimson Breath!
As I lay prostrate on the ground in a grim salute to death.

Beauty,
Solace
Clutched close to burning heart!

Thorn
Pierces
Clutched close to fading heart!

On a moonless night you cried,
Whispering of forever. Promise
Nothing you can't keep! O, I'm remiss,
I promised you a rose,
Here, one final rose
To whither in the burning sun as you will in my fading prose
