I had seen him before
many times
the boy with his dog
together
they haunted the corner store
hoping
but never asking
waiting
for someone to notice, see
the hunger
that sat on their faces
hollow eyed
so many turn away from the imp
clinging
to their matted hair
wishing
he did not have to stare
so hard
and spoil the perfect picture
of boy
and dog.
I gave him the sausage
many thanks
were in the gesture, small
brown hands
shared with painstaking accuracy
dividing
the sustenence between friends
clean-licked
fingers opened eagerly
pointed
at the grimy picture of
the zoo
shining mud-water eyes
gleamed
amongst brilliant feathers
and fur
that echoed soft friendship
I looked
for a despondent, tenacious goblin
and saw
an angel beating red and yellow wings.

Humanity, compassion and love is threaded through this poem and the noble manner of not walking by and ignoring ones that are in need. Other's are shamed where your heart reached out. Thank you so much for this entry and all the best in the contest hon.
Namaste~

WOW! Lovely poem with a beautiful message and superb ending. An angel with red and yellow wings must looks o beautiful and lively. The poem flows very well and is well put down. The fact that you helped a hungry boy and dog is noble and truly a gift from above which comes only when one lets go of ego and surrenders to His will. Then He guides the person to do what is best for all of humanity. This is a wonderful example of the same. Very touching and beautiful.
Goodluck in the contest,
