Poems on Poetry (lengthy)

Missing image

Poet

Visions swirl
in kaleidoscopic Thought,

capturing my senses
in a silken net
of profound Intent...

So much to contemplate
& Time flees rapidly ~

how to make the most
of this creative onslaught?

Always, pen & paper
whisper my name, sweetly,
ensnaring me with Desire

to compose &
Dream this World
a better place
by Design...

I am engulfed
by the images
I cannot restrain ~

they demand
their day in the Sun...

All I can do
is hold the pen

while the white water
currents flow through...

Homage

I reach toward you
with hands open

in supplication
& Awe ~

what have I
to offer
such Grandeur?

I kneel
in Praise

with the Passion
it both demands
& deserves ~

I dance
in the Light

reflected
in your
all~too knowing eyes

& spin wildly
into Dream...

Nicolette's Inspiration

There are a thousand burning Suns
in your fingertips
as they glance upon the page
with Fire trailing behind ~
your words are Planets,
revolving around each one ~
there is no gravity here,
only Flight into another Realm...

There are a thousand ethereal Moons
in your eyes
as they dance upon the page
with stardust falling
into a Sea of Dreams,
swept away by Tides of Wonder...

There are a thousand pounding heartbeats
as they prance upon the page
with echoes of Love & Laughter
celebrating every Life
you touch
with gentle Beauty...

Revelations of a Poet

We offer our Hearts
as food to the gods

& take each breath
as the Gift it is ~

there will be storms
followed by rainbows,

a Promise
of Life
yet to come...

We give our Souls
to the rhythm
of Love

& reside
in Hope's
eternal embrace ~

we must be
Strong,

for survival
will test our mettle
every chance it gets...

We unveil Desire
& reveal Dreams

with hesitancy,
uncertain
at the response
we'll receive...

Be Brave,
my Children ~

Time is far
too brief

& there are memories
waiting to be made

with the guidance
of Faith
everlasting...

The Duty of Flowers

We are the petals

that open at Dawn

& curl into ourselves

to Dream ~

We are the morning dew

nestling in the buds...

We are the sunlight

glistening

reflecting Nature's glory...

We are the petals

that line the path

where others walk ~

they pass by unaware,

yet their Hearts

still may see...

Grow where

you go

& reach

for perfection's Embrace...

Nature of the Poet

Desire dances
under a fated Moon
& stars shine their approval ~
all of Nature
wishes me well tonight...

The Wind gently lifts my hair
& kisses the nape of my neck
& I tremble, in awe...

Time slips in
& pinches my cheek,
bringing a blush to bear
on Dreams in design...

I am starlight tonight ~

I am the ocean breeze
skipping across
the waves that crash
into the shoreline,
unrestrained with glee...

The trees embrace me
in their sheltering arms
& I know
the depths
of Peace...

Poetry for Breakfast

Morning comes,
alight with Life ~

Shadows retreat
from the grasping fingers
of its brilliance.

Time moves gently forward,
bringing Dreams
to fruition.

There is Peace
within this frame,
a sense of
how Sacred
these moments are.

I trust in the day's music,
wanting only
to dance
in delighted awe ~

there is Truth
borne on the wildest Wind ~

Faith in what,
ultimately,
must be...

Sharing the Strength of Souls

Let me bow
at this altar
in Humility,

thankful for the Gifts
you give so freely...

I light incense,
in Homage,
in Hope

that the sweet smoke
might waft your way
on the Whispering Wind

& tell you Secrets
I cannot...

There is no deceit here ~

only a lack of Language
fine enough to speak
the words
that echo
in my rhythmic Heart...

I offer my Self
to you,
for it is all
I have to give ~

I bring
the Tidings
of Touch...

Inkstains

I reach out
with a trembling hand
& touch the Truth
I see
before mine eyes...

I open my heart
to the waiting.

Time has done his worst
so far
& I still stand,
unrelenting, unrepentant,
full of fire & smoke...

I open my heart
to the loving...

Life has done its best
I believe
& I still love
unabashedly,
dream unceasingly...

I reach out
in silent Discovery
& touch the Words
that gently
touch me back...

Facets of the Poet

By Ecstasy Perplexed,

I reveal the Map
of my Soul,

the Direction
of my Heart...

I Dance

on a distant Horizon,

enthralled
by the Thought

of Glory Unveiled...

I Want for Nothing
& Need is apparent ~

I drink the Dream,
in its entirety ~

my Thirst
is undeniably quenched...

I become Truth
in your eyes;

I am Discovery

bearing Hope
for your Life...

Acceptance

is the Key

to Destiny...

Unbidden

These words sizzle
as they drop
from pen to paper---

I hear a crackling
in the Night
& feel the warmth
as my hand
caresses the blank page
with Fire---

I cannot evade
the consequences
of my conquering.

My body yearns
to dream,
but the Words will not
let loose
until ink is spilled,

droplets of blood
on the page
that was once
so pure...

Words to Share

I opened my heart
& the wind rushed in,
purifying me
with its intensity.

I opened my eyes
& dreams danced in,
inspiring me
with profound wisdom.

I opened my mind
& Truth entered,
bold & strong ~
full of Life to share.

I opened my soul
to knowledge

& I learned
that an open heart
produces many paths

upon which I may walk
to freedom...

Lacking Language

I will love you
with my words
until Time allows me
to do otherwise...

These letters & spaces
will have to suffice
in place of caresses
& looks I long for...

There! Did you feel that?
Listen! Did you hear me whisper?

Open your Heart
to the spaces
between these phrases ~

Open your Soul
to the breaths
between each line...

If you lean closer,
you will hear
the pulse in Silence ~

if you come nearer,
you will see

my eyes
shining with tears
of Joy
at your Presence here...

I Sing for the Gift of Poetry

FOR US ALL

Perhaps
the Spirit
moves through Time
on the breadth of a Whisper---

an echo of Truth
& Beauty is heard
in silent awe
for the fluttering wings
of butterflies...

Maybe, then,
this is the reason
we live our days
& fight our nights
& scream our Love
to the storm-filled skies...

Could it be Truth
unknown
before this Time,
possibly the remnants
of a Dream
relentlessly pursued?

I know not the facts of it all,
as yet
(& don't know if ever I will)---

I only know this for Certain---
the undeniable Light
in my eyes
is a beacon
in the Darkness

& I weep
with the depth
of it all...

  • These words fell like the blossom leavng the trees, into my heart and mind in preparation for summer. Beautiful words are food for the soul and transport us beyond the sad and lonely days when weakness invades.

    Merry meet,
Congratulations on winning the Bronze in this contest. There were alot of really good poets in this contest, but this just blew me away. Such mastery of the English language, I got goose bumps when I read this. This is surely much more elegant than mine. I would tell what parts are my favorite, but I'd just have to copy the whole thing. So I'll just settle on Congratulating you once more. Would you mind if I placed a link to this on my Author's Page amongst my favorites? (with the proper credit of course)?

You were not kidding, it's long. I loved every word, but I think my favorite part was "Poetry for Breakfast" without a doubt. I have to admit that I got so many ideas from that one part, and for that, I thank you in advance of the judging. My muse seems to be getting closer already.

Thank you, Wanda. You are indeed a wonderful poet! Hugs, Patricia

i like the one lacking language:

Love has no words more than you said
Love has no silence more than you made,
You said all the words of love
    More than one can say....
Till you made me to rhyme one stanza
To crown you a great poet!

Loved 'Duty of Flowers' (I hope I got that right- the one with the clenched petals) It was great. A lot of these were amazing, you really capture some great snap shots of poets and the world and there were several good lines on inspiration in there. (I'm sorry I'm being so vauge, I can't find some of the ones I loved >_< One was like... "then I learned that an open heart produces many paths so that I may walk to freedom" or something like that- I really liked that... Great Job.

I hate to have to tell ya this, but if you're on this site & you are an artist & you have written poetry, then you are a Poet... There's no reason to feel "self~important" about it, though...Some of a true Poet's best qualities are humility & Grace...I know better than to get all egotistical about anything, let alone my writing...All I can hope for is a lil' originality & the ability to touch someone gently with my words...If I can do that, I've succeeded...Besides, why be arrogant about something that was a Gift to begin with??? I am not the Source; I am merely the vessel through which it pours...As I often say, I only hold onto the pen...for dear Life... I enjoy reading & writing poems about the art & craft of poetry; they lend insight & help explain the unexplainable...Thanks for comin' by, melodramangst...I appreciate ya...Poet... Wanda

Good job, this poem is like a compendium of how good you are. It like kept on coming like a bunch of good punches in the face. No filler.

I have one and only one complaint. Personally, I'm not extremely fond of the "poem about writing a poem" ornament. Obviously, you use it a lot. I mean, it does add a personal touch, I'll grant you that, but it ends up being a device of alienation if the reader doesn't consider themselves a poet. Like for example, I'm on this site, but I don't consider myself a poet. Some of my friends call me a poet, artist, or whatever, but I don't dare call myself one because I don't want to get all self-important about it.

I think you know I'm not trying to imply you are, but I'm covering my ass.

Of course it is named "Poems on Poetry" so maybe I ought to shut up.

    Continue to kick ass.

    Always, pen & paper
    whisper my name, sweetly,
    ensnaring me with Desire

If only all of us could react to those whispers of pen and paper like you do, my friend - you definately are a beacon of light in the world of poetry! Wonderful collage once again...what beautiful songs you sing!
