Please tell me why there’s war
Why innocents must pay
Please tell me why hearts
Can never save the day
We hope, we dream for better days
But they never come
Our life is filled with coffins
And tears when they get home
With all the minds out in the world
Can’t we find a better way?
Can’t we stop insanity
And find a way to save the day
Why is There War
Why do we fight wars? This is a question that has to be answered. Why
can’t we find a better way? I believe better minds will someday
prevail and peace will come. But it will take a very powerful
person or country with a very good heart to lead the way. Some feel
that America is that country. That may be true but we still have a
lot of growing up to do.
We have to step up and find a dialog that will change hearts and
minds. We have to change what is going on in America itself. There
is still prejudice alive in our great country and that has to
stop. What America puts itself up to be, has to come to pass. The
internal bickering has to stop. Men need to learn how
to
do their business behind closed doors. We just prove over and over that we are all on different pages. We say
one thing in private and then use it against each other
later. These are the people that we vote into office. We as
American the voters are responsible for the people in elected office. We need to stand up and start looking at what these elected
officials are doing. Most Americans don’t care; and until they do, we will never be a great country.
I understand that some governments are dangerous to the rest of the
world. The world needs to stop letting innocent people die. Women
and children are innocent, and people who are not part of the
government are innocent. I know America tries to minimize the
danger to innocent people. I wonder why we can’t eliminate this
danger. I don’t understand why we can’t just kill the leaders of
countries. Kill the leader’s henchmen. Then call for election.
This sounds simple but it wouldn’t work. By doing this we would cause
more problems. I hate to admit it but war may be the only way to
resolve this type of problem. Had we killed Saddam and his henchmen
then civil war would have kill more people then we did. Iraq would
be out of control and the world would not be a safe place for anyone.

You know, I really like your sentiment, and I think you have your heart in the right place...but honestly..you'd think that the Americans are the world's saviours and all they're out to do is liberate everyone and be everybody's protector..
All this, when in fact, the Americans are the ones largely responsible for all of Iraq's problems right now, and I won't even go anywhere near any other part of the world..
You talk about innocent people losing their lives and you feel for your troops in Iraq...don't get me wrong, I feel for them too. But I also wonder what it's like for other people of other nationalitites when your very troops abuse any religion and language they cannot understand. I wonder what it's like for the women and girls in Iraq who are raped by your men, and for the men there who are taken from their families, even when they do no wrong.
What if America had to go through that? Then the whole world would be terrorists and we'd be watching poor, victimised America on CNN and BBC everyday.
I just HATE the hypocrisy America is now synonymous with. Wait, I think it's mostly always been synonymous with it.
Stop thinking of yourselves as some kind of gifts to humanity and start doing what's really right. Start standing up for people who are innocent, people who deserve a proper life, and people who have lost a country and basic rights as human beings because of your wonderful country. And don't just stand up for them only when they're American.
This isn't personal. It's just meant so you guys open up your eyes and see your country and President for what they are- one BIG FARCE. -
That was very good and what you say about America is very true and I hate. America is called the great mixing pot or something like that, we're supposed to mix. It's not just for the people that came from Europe many years ago, but for everybody that is looking for freedom. I think everybody has to stop and look at someone and see that person for who they truly are. Sorry, I know I went a littl of there, but your poem did that and that's good. Your poem makes us think and I thank you for that. God Bless!

its deep and emotional for u
i agree
ur words rnt very powerful tho
and u cudve made this relatively short
Had we killed Saddam and his henchmen
then civil war would have kill more people then we did. Iraq would
be out of control and the world would not be a safe place for anyone.
noone in iraq liked saddam
not even his soldiers
once when i was 5 years old
i was in front of a bunch of soldiers
and spat ona statue of saddam
and they all laughed and were delighted
lol
my mom was frickeng scared
but we figured even soldiers hated him -
Very deep, and emotional. I will leave my comment at that. Great write. Blessings

Agreed! poetry like any other art form should be first an foremost an expression of something emotive, not about form or technique like a lot of pseudo intellictual snob aesthetes think it's all about. They are the same people that Socrates labelled sophists(the spelling nazis, and the form jag offs) that ruin poetry for me, and im glad you like me think 'pissing people off' and making them think and feel is a very important form of art, not just some tool to boost your own ego so as to prove how educated you are.
Thats just pretentious!
Though i may disagree with you politically; emotionally you seem to be on my level, controversy provokes argument which makes people think and feel, so must be good!

Interesting reply, I'm not sure why we came to Iiraq but from all the things I've learned in the last 2 1/2 years it was something that was needed. I'll post some new stuff in the future that will piss people off. But like I said in other response's poetry is meant to make people think and not answer the worlds problems. It got you thinking so it must have been a good poem. I a very moody writter like everyone else some good days some bad, My book is called Emotion of an American in Iraq. And this is but one Emotion.

I love that fact that this poem and my statement brings out so many thoughs, It was written to make people think. I should place a disclaimer that says" THE VIEWS HERE ARE NOT NESSASARILY THAT OF THE POET OR THOSE OF THE CREATORS OF ALLPOETRY" biut it is good to get people to think and give them an outlet to vent.

War is brutal, callous even evil, but i have to say this, i think it must be naturally the human condition!
Look at the worlds history, nearly all of it involves war.
War makes history.
War creates nations.
War brings freedoms.
War does have its positives, but it is still horrific, and though i agree with the sentiment of this piece; the practicalities are totally in favour of war as a final solution.
History shows us this.
America was created on the back of war with the British empire. Lots of innocent British and American boys died, but i don't think any modern day Americans and Brits would say the war of American Independence was not necessary?
Same as world war 2!
Hitler had to be stopped, war was the only way.
As for the war in Iraq?
I think it is a bogus war, to cover up George bushes business dealings with the bin laden family(who were incidentally allowed to leave the USA a few days after 911).
Saddam (though an evil bastard) had no WM D's! That was a lie that the world swallowed!
Iraq had nothing to do with 911!
In fact Iraq was and still is a relatively secular nation by Muslim standards, and up until 1991 was pro west and pro USA(Reagan even supported and armed Saddam in his war with Iran!).
I don't think Saddam will be executed, that would make him a martyr for the Sunni Muslims who would then rise up and make Iraq an extreme Islamic state on a par with the Taliban.
Bush is an arsehole and he has created a big can of worms for the USA and the world with this Iraq business, just to cover his arse over his business dealings with Arabs. In fact i'd go as far as to say that he expected 911 to happen; his face when he was told of the news did not look like a that of a man in shock, he looked like a man who had just been told a terrible inevitability had just happened!
He was worried for his own ass!
when will middle(average) Americans get it through their numb skulls that their government and its leaders (democrat and republican) are a bunch of corrupt business men who are only after wealth for themselves and their families , not for Americans or the world.
Britain is the same; the Blair government is corrupt and its about time we had a revolution!
How many sons of anyone in American government serve in Iraq?
yet they send ordinary Americans sons out to kill and die!
Rise up America and stop swallowing so much crap!
Americas real enemy is not in court in Iraq or in a cave in Pakistan, he's sitting in the white house, raking his money in and laughing in your faces, he's a NONCE!
In fact George Bush and his cronies who run America are so Corrupt i actually fear for my life for posting this on the net, in a weeks time i will probably be found dead in my bath with a USA flag stuffed up my Jacksy!
In fact i may delete this and retract everything.
It was just a joke i actually support George Bush!

Charlie, I read some of these poems when I read your book, but wanted to read them again, America can be that country if we just could quit bickering long enough. But I agree with you someday there will be peace for all.
-
Loved it! I agree with you 100% but sadly we have had wars for many many years and will probably continue to have them for many more.
-
Its so nice to know that you are an American in Iraq but with a heart.Very nice poem .War,Death,Powergames,Senseless killing,Innocent orphaned Miamed,Widows left behind. Is this a worthy act of civilised societies?I wish there were no deaths except natural ones.No wars ,just peace.I can understand what you must feel, being sensitive as you apparently seem.Have A good day;Anji

This poem is so deep and gets you right down to the core. Yet, it's so true. It's a beautiful poem and you did a great job on it. I just happened to right a poem called "War" as well and it didn't even come close to how good this one is. Keep that pen flowing...you're doing great! - MKN

awesome and deep

It is nice to see that you realise war is evil. This includes all wars. there is no such thing as a "just war". Don't forget that in WW2, both sides throught THEY were the ones fighting a just war. And the same applies in Iraq. Both sides are wrong.

There has always been war...and there will always be war...War is now the last resort to settle differences between two countries...It was in the past, sometimes the first resort ...The world , as civilized as it may seem, is teetering ever so slowly back and forth ...How can any sane person really and truly believe that when they die, they will have 72 virgins waiting on the other side?...Fantasy at it's highest, and so deadly...I'm shaking my head... American soldiers used to fight to win...Now, they are not allowed to win....Just fight to keep up...to be equal...Afriad of what the rest of the world will think about them....Christ!.. . Pleas give me a break! Liberalism is a disease...of the mind...exactly the same thoughts and ideas as the communists of the past...read my poem, Sleepy Head, When I first wrote that, a friend thought I was writing about all civilization...waking up and getting their heads out of their ass!Ron

wow how true ti is america is not perfect, we have elected people that have corupted our counrty.war is so senseless but if not for war there would not be peace anywhere.we need to tresure our troops and let them know that we stand behind them 100 percent god bless you and our troops
-
I love this poem. I fell how you do. My cousin is curently oin Iraq and my dad was there for a year in a half. Its hard on people. If there wasnt war, then families wouldnt be torn apart and the world would be a lot better. Once again, this was a great poem
-
i agree with you, senseless killing useless killing, why? such good questions, and yet our government gives no answers. so why would you start something that takes so many lives? we have sadam and we are searching for osama, so why do we leave troops in the middle of no where taking them from their families, stretching them mentally and brekaing humans?
I hate it, I do. The look of terror in the eyes of someone going to Iraq and the look of broken in one that comes back is a pain in my heart that so many of us know that we shouldnt have to experiance.
