In our "clubhouse" behind my house,
Sticks stuck into the ground
A boulder was the floor
And between the sticks, phone cords were wound
It was here that we were when I told you
That I was moving away
To a new town with my mom and sister;
We were leaving in five days.
We couldn't tell the future,
But of course we said
That we would still be friends forever
Until the day that we were dead
Now, as I look back, I see we drifted apart
The miles between them made themselves known
And I sit here staring at a picture of my old best friend
Crying on my own.
