Of solitude and honoring the dead
While I sit on my grandpa's knee
He tells me of things that shouldn't be
He tells me of the wonderful food
And lovely scenes when in a good mood
Yet when he's cross he remembers when
His friends all left him alone for dead.
His struggling to keep out of sight
While the enemy looked; ready to fight
Yet, he with strength pressed onward with
A picture of my grandma; this is no myth.
Waiting and barley surviving until
His friends found him below that hill
They carried him back and honored him
In the place that was ever so dim.
Stories like this make me proud
And makes me honor him out loud
I love my Grandpa can't you see
He helped protect our great country.
He makes me realize that others are still
Waiting for someone and lying still
Wanting a friend to find and help them
Death waiting their souls to condemn.
I thank each one that bravely serves
Not caring about his trembling nerves
But, where are the others the should help out?
Love for our country is what it's about.
Patriotism in me loudly rings
And forever my anthem I will sing
And when I get old enough I know I to
Will defend my country...shouldn't you?
Author notes
MY grandfather was in the Navy for I don't know how many years. Listening to his stories really makes me proud and in some little way, I know that I to want to help out our nation. I am willing to fight for it's freedom if ever need be. Yet, I also am willing to run for congress maybe on eday to try and help out the government. We are still One nation UNDER GOD....and INDEVISABLE.

Wow, I hadn't read this poem before, but I saw that you won a trophy for it in a contest so I decided to stop by and read it and what I read almost blew me right outta my seat. Excellent work, Chelsea! This poem is absolutely brilliant! I think it deserved the gold, but that's just my personal opinion.
Congratulations on winning the bronze!
