The Line

To those who really felt like reading a poem, I apologize; if I have enough muse left over I'll write a poem for this contest as well. - Your Poison

There is no good, and no evil- it is all perception. In all of those movies where the "good guy" defeats the "bad guy" there is violence, there are children that are bickering right now about who is going to play the "good guy" and who will play the "bad guy."

Since most seem to be on the side of what they perceive to be "good" then let us examine what is termed "Evil"
Evil is commonly associated with darkness, "satanic" symbols, violence of any sort; sex, art, music, religion, blasphemy, thinking for ones self, &etc, have all been considered evil at one point and continue to be perceived as evil in the minds of some.
Evil is what you don't know, what you can not control, when you yell at a loved one and expose things which you did not even know you perceive that some malign force has made you say those things.

Good is most commonly associated with light, "religious" symbols, kindness; revolution, slavery, freedom, the inquisition, love, &etc, have had time in the spotlight as "Good and righteous."
Good is what you can control and what you wish for, when something goes your way you imagine that some benign force has made it so and you thank that force.

The reason why movies and stories with he "good vs. evil" plot line are so successful is because the Epic battle against good and evil appeals so strongly to us. It is simply the struggle of your mind to grasp life in its entirety. The reason Humans evolved as they did was because they had the ability to problem solve. But the human brain can only process things which it understands and are in clear patterns.
For example, anyone who has taken algebra will know the answer to X+ 2= 4 right away. It is a problem you needing even think about. However X* 21= 17 makes no since, you mind knows that there is no whole number which would equal 17 when multiplied by 21.
This is the same in real life, when you encounter a problem which makes no since to you, your mind rails against it. So much so that the problem, depending on the circumstances, may be considered "evil" in and of its self, or the work of some evil being.

No one can say that such and such a thing is bad and some other thing is good and have the entire population agree with them all of the time. Both are based on perceptions, and perceptions change as rapidly as environment and people themselves, do.
