Tribute to a soldier

Laying in this Trailer
So very far from Home
The sound's so loud
I check if my head's still on

I got down on my knees
Lord thank you I'm still here
Cause there for a moment
I was at heavens gate

But the day is not over
there were lot's of tears to cry
for another fallen soldier
one of our best had died

I got down on my knees
lord he's now there by your side
bless him like he blessed us
for we hear freedom ring

Somewhere across the ocean
a sea of tears will fall
because he someone's son or husband
or a father that is gone

So get down on your knees
say a prayer now with me
Our hearts go out to you
God stand beside your son

Author notes

I can't wait to the day that no soldiers die. The day that a fire cracker is the only booms I here,  I safe now why I am "knock on wood" but I remember those bad days.

Death is hard to deal with in any event. Just watching the news at night is enough to leave me in tears for someone whos life has come to an end. For the parent whos child has died, the child whos parent has died, and the spouse left to grieve! But the death of a soldier, someone fighting so we can be free, now that is truly painstaking. Your poetry is very beautiful with sentiments of life in Iraq and your tributes to our American soldiers! Thank you!

Thanks for sharing this with everyone here at AP. You all do a fantastic job and though you may not feel it sometimes , we are grateful. When I was reading this it remindedme of a song from the 60's Universal Soldier by Donovan. You capture greatly the sadness of it all. Bless you again...mal

beautiful tribute to a fallen soldier....:f

With Memorial Day just around the corner, we Americans all need to say a prayer for our men and women who are fighting for our freedom overseas. I thank God for them each and every day. Beautiful tribute to a fallen soldier.. God bless you...
