If a child is born free from hate
Does it lie within a dormant trait?
When developing minds are sought
To instill the bias we are taught,
Is it out of fear we judge another
By ethnicity or one’s color?
Ask yourself the question, “Why are we”
Color blind during times of catastrophe?
We unite as one to aid in time of need
Paying no heed to nationality or creed.
Then how quickly we transform
To spew out our odious scorn.
If you were sinking in quicksand,
Would you query the color of the hand
That reaches out to save your soul
Or descend to your hellhole?

Thank you for reviewing my poem which is greatly appreciated. Yes, it is so true we can't get out of quicksand alone and just how many will ignore the color of the helping hand that reaches out to save them? Education is the only way we can cure the ignorance of bigotry that is past on from generation to generation.

Excellent
Thank you so much for your review and your comments were very uplifting and greatly appreciated. Since I am only a free member, I am having difficulty with this site as it is very confusing. So many things I have to explore and absorb that I don't understand. It said I came in second in the group contest. Have no idea what that means. -
All I shall say is that this is one of the better entries in this contest, and I wish you the best of luck!

bigotry is anchored in fear; somethings are fearful. Strong, well adjusted people must constantly, gently speak to the afraid and angry and coax them to see the bigger picture. You cannot get out of the quicksand alone...

Thank you so much for your comments and review. What a beautiful world it would be if we all just learned to live together in peace. There is so much we can learn from one another.

Our differences may seem to make us unique, but they are what strengthens our society and creates interest in life and sharing each others nuances. well said. kudos to you.

Thank you for your comments and review. Human nature is hard to figure out. In times of trouble we all come together to save lives. We never question skin color when we hear the cries of people in trouble. It's human instinct. We all must look into our hearts and souls to overcome the human fraility of prejudice.

Thank you so much for your comments and great review and I am flattered that you think this should be posted everywhere. It always amazed me that in time of tragedy we all come together to save lives without regard to nationality or skin color. If we hear the cries of a child in trouble, would we consider the color before trying to save that child? Of course not. We all must look into our hearts and souls to overcome our human frailities of prejudice. -
Excellent chilling last lines I love it the overall poem for some reason reminded me of the song Gangsta's Paradise by COOLIO you pose a very interesting thought and question...I believe that should be posted EVERYWHERE I am sure if people who were racist thought about sinking in quicksand and being able to be saved or die because of their stupidity they would choose to look beyond skin color and into the hearts and souls. Excellent job Love it so much Good Luck To You

... Wow. This is one of those that really hits you, but at the same time, makes you wonder about our society. This is really good, and I must say that I really like the rhyme scheme.
Good luck, mi amigo
