before I adored you,
a whore with no more to live for
but thievery and debauchery,
with no thought to purity,
my security in my team
and my abilities.
Before you my priority
was me and only me,
but now I see
someone else of importance,
someone who loves me
despite the stain that remains
on my soul.
You extol me as if
my iniquities were innocence
and my sins of no consequence,
and though I know
I am undeserving,
this feeling grows.
You chose me
and now I'm free
because love is liberty
from all the things
I thought I was or should be,
and find my true identity
in not me,
but we.
Author notes
Once again, I am bad with titles. Suggestions?
This is a poem written from the point of view of a character I roleplay as. If you've ever seen Teen Titans, it's based off that, only there are male and female versions of each character, and this would be the female version of Kid Wykkyd. Anyway, this girl has had a rough life, been used and abused, raised up in a life of crime, used her body to get her way...need I go on? Then she meets someone who actually cares for her. He's a villain too, but one of the cleaner ones, at least sexually. So yeah, she feels kinda dirty.
For me, though, it kinda goes to a deeper level. When I read it, I also think about Jesus, and how I've felt before with him, the same as she feels with her boyfriend. The ending especially gets it, about love being liberty, and finding who I am in who I am when I'm with Him. I do what she did: I ask Him how he could love me. He responds exactly how her boyfriend did: "How could I not?"

Thank you. It's good to finally get some feedback on this poem.

Hey! Just a suggestion on the title. The one line that stands out the most for me is "despite the stain". Not only does it sound good as a title, but it sums up the poem. Great piece!
Keep Writing!!!
