A fiery disk floating above
the disturbed reflection
of a crystalline midnight, burns a path from space to shore on
the tarred sky stirred into white crested shapes.
Men and Monsters alike,
crawl hungrily from the depths to be sucked under again
as the next figures lift themselves above the sinking bodies.
A harvest moon, encircled by whiteblue candles
illuminates dunes and ignored gardens,
a disappearing horizon on all sides,
into the deep swirling sky.
Mounted horsemen and dancing children,
white bodies pressing inward, guard the lone,
ripped to the sky -the horizon -the dunes
holding her safely to the ground lest she sleep,
to be gone before sunrise.
Mindless melodies dance in the wind
red ribbons fly away in time,
gifts to the fleeting children in the waves.
Sing with them, the fading children, before they die
before they sink again to the depths,
feel the touch of fading men, their warm hands freezing where they lay.
Sing for them, the Men and Monsters,
dancing in the wind, the waves,
follow their lead, as midnight falls, through glimmering white and mirrored sky.
before the sky, again, falls still.
Author notes
I went vacationing on the beach in Amelia Island, and went outside at night as often as I could. It was beautiful, I can't come near describing it.

well done young poet, very well done, i see no trace of hesitation here, a boldness of stroke, a strength of line which compells this reader along. love the images! love the enigma! you are reaching deep into the emotion of what you see when you write like this, it is in this place of exploration where your writing will explode. Hone your craft with rhymes when you must, practice the forms of sonnet, the meter and foot counts, when you get hold of form poetry - later in your schooling - these ventures into imagery will break forth in marvelous ways. Right now you are tracking very well. Blessings and best wishes, ~richard
