Every day I leave you in the graveyard
Birds and bells
You behind the yew
Scant life among the dead
Slope off and sit on a grave
Pastel tissues fall from the tree’s pockets
White moon in azure sea
White moon shine on me
In headlock with sister sun
Privet’s not private
And neither are you
Which is your home?
Do you belong to that crumbling stone?
Or yours the tawdry pebbles and single pink rose?
The doves tell you to leave me alone
This hide and seek’s not fair
You have a thousand shadows and vapour trails
You have grass and worms
And stones and daisies
White rock has broken off
You tapped me on the shoulder
Once too often
But your corset’s restricting
And you live in sweet fiction
And once more I’ll leave you at the gates
Clasp your hands through the iron
Kiss your cheek through the sun
Every day I leave you
In the graveyard
