Chester Bunny knew it was Mother's Day.
Once again his mind was miles away.
A new adventure was about to start.
Common sense left behind, he did depart.
A special gift for his mother this year.
For a mother so sweet and dear.
A sun bonnet with a rose on top.
Off to the city , till the train would stop.
The train pulled away, he heard a strange noise.
The laughter and teasing of three little boys.
He began to tremble and shake with fright.
Chester would stay hidden throughout the night.
Then morning came and the doors opened wide.
With no one around he hopped outside.
Sleeping on the train for two days or more.
He was never away that long before.
Back in the meadow, the train pulled away.
He picked wildflowers for a bouquet.
His gift of a bonnet would have to wait.
He must be going, he was very late.
Mother was worried and thought he was dead.
Tear stained eyes became swollen and red.
Seeing Chester mad her heart all aglow.
She hugged him tight and would not let go.
He told his mother of the special gift.
And the days he slept with his mind adrift.
Handing her the flowers with a smile.
For these I traveled many a mile.
I received a special gift you see.
It is having you home safe, here with me.
Your flower bouquet has a special touch.
They say, "Mother I love you so much.

Well I found Chester Bunny and he is just so adorable and sweet. He and Little Grey seem to have learned life is best in mama's arms. It is just so much fun writing these stories and seeing the personality of these little creatures come to life. I get so excited every time i finish one and can tell you must feel the same way. Thanks for telling me about Chester Bunny and I will read some more of your stories as well. childlike faith

This would make an excellent children's poem, I agree with mayflowerbg on that! Very good incorporation of the moral, and I love how you do acknowledge how embarassing it can sometimes be for a little boy being nice to his mom, that actually made me chuckle. It all turns out alright in the end, however.

Ahh this was really cute and cuddly. A shorter version of that poem would be good on an easter card, you know. It had good versing and great rhyme and the moral to the story was good and poignant, well done.

very good
The rhythm and the rhymes "float" you through reading this poem. I like poems with language as simple as this; it should be included in readers and English textbooks for little children; reading and understanding will make them proud and happy. -
