Presumption dwelling deep within,
Deceitful heart all prone to sin;
Divided wills, their own to win,
And worldly din, and worldly din.
Oh Lord, I know to do the right;
Please put Thy holy cross in sight
And keep me walking in Thy light-
My heart unite, my heart unite.
Lord, fill me with Thy Spirit fire
And let me never whine nor tire;
This single goal of Thee inspire-
My one desire, my one desire.

Author notes
Psalm 27:4~
One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.
Psalm 86:11-12~
(11)Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.
(12)I will praise thee, O LORD my God, will all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore.
Luke 10:42~
But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
Quote taken from an Amy Carmichael devotional, which she obtained from a historical record of an old French missionary to the Huron Indians:
"Listen, my friend- no man can give himself heart and soul to ONE thing while in the back of his mind he cherishes a desire, a secret hope, for something very different. You know that even in worldly affairs nothing worthwhile is accomplished except by that last sacrifice, the giving of oneself altogether and finally."

Well Done!
heismysong, This is a beautiful poem of surrender and devotion. I also like how the last line in each verse echos, giving greater emphasis to its' meaning. Well Done!

This is beautiful... straight from your heart it seems... I have no clue as to what the form is... but I do know lovely when I see it...

What are you talking about? I'm just a human, like you. I have always enjoyed your writing. I think that's why I have you on my favorites. I just don't always give myself a chance to read what you have, to my own loss.
God bless you, okay?

Thank you... I feel as though I don't deserve this of you.

Aaaaagh! Competition!
Oh, it's okay. I just had to take a deep breath. I'm better now.
So this is a monotetra. I had someone severely tongue-lash me once for writing something similar to this, although I'm sure it wasn't a monotetra.
I like the pattern, especially with the phrase that is stated twice at the end of each stanza. I'm always thinking of music and that is where it goes here.
The message is necessary, being of truth of our depravity, our propensity for double-mindedness. James so aptly warned of this, as well as in other books of Holy Writ.
Great write. You are a poet's poet.

OFFF COURSSSSEEEEEE I am Biased. You are my sister. But if you write a crappy poem then fine. But this is excellent. And if I want to give you a prize then fine... BUT you got lots of competition in this one baby!!! You want to win you better start writing more. LOL. Besides I am a fair judge, and if you refuse to enter anything of mine because I am your sister, I will change my name, not tell you who I am and just claim to be another Christian so I can get your best!!! LOL But really. As long as I get to read it that is enough for me. And if worse comes to worse in the contest I would ask someone else to help me judge. LOL. So Like I said this is a lovely poem. It is actually perfect for my contest but I also want to write another one for this contest. Love ya dork!!!

I kind-of wanted to enter this in my sister's contest, but I didn't want anyone to think she might be being biased toward me.
Thanks for the applause!
Jesus gave me this one today!

Oops! I forgot to aplaud! Darn!

Very nicely written. It reminds me of being double-minded and how the Lord surely does not like that! I'm glad that you entered after all...its certainly going to be tough contest to judge! God bless! Noble1
