Dread

Dread

I set dreading what I can’t see
A mortar, IED or a bullet in the head
Death it comes form no where
It’s just cold Steel cold Lead

Death it has no mercy
Fate or luck it’s there
It takes the greatest people
And our hearts when there not here

The question is always when
Or where it will come from
We all know it is coming
we just don't know the sum

Author notes

TO those sitting and waiting for death on a base far from home and an oceans away.  I hope you all make it home

How raw and sadly how real this poem is, most poeple would not even think about this aspect of war and how close each and every one of these soldiers is to death every day they are there. An excellent write my friend - we all pray for their safe return and thank you for forcing us not to forget them.

A very stark view of reality for so many of our brave men and women who sacrifice so much and ask so little in return. This was so heartfelt and I shall keep you in my prayers till you return home safe and sound. take care and keep writing, you are wonderful and write with amazing imagery. Sandy

a very chilling look at a harsh reality. I have a very good friend who's reserve unit was called up recently and I have cried and cried and begged him not to go but of course that isn't an option. at least I know I am not the only one with these fears and my fear for him is valid. a terrifying write but a great one. good luck in the contest.
