"Why do we give ourselves hope,
when we are only bound to fail?"
she asked him so innocently,
intertwining her fingers with his.
[heartbeat]
"The only failure is death," he replied.
Then I have failed,
her memory whispered to him.
[heartbeat]
He shifted and held her tighter,
"Let me kiss you..."
[heartbeat]
"Why do you want to kiss me?"
[heartbeat]
If only we could see ourselves for how great
we really are...
he thought now,
laying a rose on the closed coffin lid.
[heartbreak]

I really love this poem.
I especially like your play on words with the heartbeat/heartbreak.
My favourite line is 'she asked him so innocently' it adds real visuals for me as she twines her hand in his.
Very beautifully wriiten.
