No Word is Heard

.

I sit
in the
sixth row
pew
in an
empty church...

The smell
of old books
and varnish
permeate
the air.

I listen...
for the Word.

The moment
shifts,
and I am
sitting
upon my
pillow
on the
floor.

Incense
wafting
around me
in halls
of saffron.

There is
no Word...

There is
no I...

Only Silence...

Been there, done that. The only sound the ears can hear, not the soul.Would be the squeaking pews.Echoing through the silence of high ceilings. That will draw attention to looking upwards.Ha! Sorry, this was a fabulous divine piece of design you've shared.~~Suseann

Oh marvelous. Transcending physicality taking the reader to the church of Endlessness. Oh I love that smell of old books and varnish. Man made fragrances, divine work.

Your verses are spare, but give plenty to think on. The sensory images resonate with me, a silent church, a silent meditation hall, leading one to inner silence.
I think there is a typo in the fourth stanza.

I smell the scents in both places, I see the surroundings clear...in sparing words You've painted these two slices of Life, these two Moments. And beneath You have spoken of the Stillness in which the Word and I are One, leaving only the Silence from which ALL springs.

Thank you for the echoed Light. Shine on, Poet Divine!

    Peace and blessings, Rod
