Because we live in a world where mothers sell their children for drugs
And a 12 year old is more likely to join gangs than clubs
And a boy can beat another boy to death for being gay and still get a college scholarship
And a kidnapped child is only important if his parents are rich
Because we live in a world where police carry guns but can't protect us
And a man shooting his wife is less important than the MCI merger
And we let murderers walk free just because they're a minority
And a man can rape a 4 year old and still be out of prison in 10 years
Because we live in a world where everyone hates everyone
And the death penalty is only a good idea if we don't like the person on trial
And not racially profiling is more important that the truth
And we only have freedom of speech if what you say isn't offensive
But mostly,
Because we live in a world where greed prevails
And we can be thrown in jail arguing with our president
And we can be maced for telling a corporation it's wrong
And we can be killed for caring about others
Because we live in a world where it takes bombs and guns to get anyone's attention
Because we live in a world where we have to struggle to maintain our basic rights
Because I believe no government, no corporation, no church, should have complete control over the people
Because I believe in freedom...

Teehee. I feel the same way about poems that I do about my stories, you can love 'em, you can hate 'em. They're mine, not yours, and I don't care if you are a republican and this pisses you off. My mind, my rules.

Freedom is a good thing, and you certainly express your opinions very well in this poem. Easy to read and understaand - makes one wonder just where it will all end?

Because we live in a country where we have the right to express our beliefs freely.. I say amen. I just wish we would heed the warnings.. and belief our actions affect everyone..
